Switching triptans ?

Currently on Zomig and was given the imitrex stat dose. I know can't use on the same day. That's a given.... The docs say can alternate between days not headaches, but what exactly does that mean? does anyone know how long one must be out of you system prior to using the other? I kinda want to wait until the weekend to try the injection where I truly don't have anything else to do other than try to "feel" better. Then again the zomig has done nothing other than the first few times and that was 2 weeks ago. Thanks E

You must wait 24 hours before switching to a different triptan from your last dose.

I'd advise using the shot splitting technique too... Much cheaper if you can kill 2 or 3 headaches with one shot. Plus the whole 6 mg at once is a bit much for some of us. It's either $70 per headache with the pen, $35 per headache if you do 3mg, or about $23 per headache if you use 2mg. Just do as much as it takes... As you've read, there may be a chance of prolonging cycles or getting rebounds with trex, so why use more than you need to...

Iunderstand the whole splitting rationale but how the hell can ya manage during? or do ya "pre-split?" I guess it depends if ya go from 0 to 10 in a matter of seconds Much cheaper if you can kill 2 or 3 headaches with one shot. Plus the whole 6 mg at once is a bit much for some of us. I agree that 6 just seems like a lot if 2 will work and we don't know until we try. I know my fiance'(who is awesome and beyond supportive) is a bit hesitant for me to screw with that. I understand but at the same time why wouldn't a doc juust perscribe lesser only to give more if needed... other than the whole that's how statdoses come.... but can't we get viles? It's either $70 per headache with the pen, $35 per headache if you do 3mg, or about $23 per headache if you use 2mg. Just do as much as it takes... | Still haven't tried the imitrex because I need to be off the zomig for 24 hours @ the same time I nearly lost my shit with a kip 8 in a clients' house. All I wanted to do was take something but couldn't if I want to try the trex tomorrow. Supposed to be getting the O2 later today. I continue looking for the new doc & will let ya'll know of my experience in NYC. Another quick question/comment... I still can't find any pattern to my CH's.. I pretty much shadow all day long with the exception of a few pain free moments that are like a big surprise. A tease" Like remember me". Sometimes I go from a shadow to a pacer to Eye explosion. Other times I go from shadow to eye explosion. Other times it's pacer >shadow>pacer. It's like I don't want to take the abortive med until "onset" but I never know which one it's going to be. YA know, does this make sense? If I knew that if A then B then couldn't I nail it? I guess that is what is great about the O2. Hopefully later also had my first nights sleep without being woken up in over a month. then 30 minutes later Wham! Gonna get better! Later E
