Starting To Get Worried!!

Perhaps its just my impression but there seems to have been a number of posts recently where its been mentioned that close family members of some people posting on here have also got CH. Now I've got three kids [10,8 and 4 years] and of course can't even imagine how I would feel if one of them went on to develop this terrible condition. How worried should I be? Thanks Filbert

My father had them and now I do. My dad was told years ago that they can run in the family, but I believe current research indicates this is not necessarily so. I have two kids, son 27, daughter 23. Both do not have them at this time. Regardless, I wouldn't worry too much. Even if the worst happens, they will get much better care right from the start thanks to you. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will post something about the heredity factor, I'm pretty sure I read about it being rare, but I don't remember where I read that.

That is all very interesting to me because I have asked my family, and NO one in my immediate family has headaches of any kind. I am the lucky one. I know it has been discussed here in many threads, but I think it is strange that I have no family history of headaches. -Freddy

One of my dad's sisters has CH (my aunt). However, her twin sister does not. My doctors have also told me that it is not hereditary. Thorns

There was actually a study in the works on this at Jefferson...one family with something like 5 people in it with CH or something like that. I don't know where the study stands at this point! Even though migraine is definately considered to be genetic, nobody else in my family history has ever suffered from them. However, my cousin also has a form of chronic daily headache, but she has been very well controlled with elavil, and nothing has worked for me. I don't understand all genetic stuff sometimes! I might be a cystic fibrosis carrier, but I don't think it would stop me from bringing a child into this world. Ya just never know what could happen... I wouldn't worry about it until you see some kind of sign though. And just think, your kids would be a little luckier than many because you are knowledgeable about CH, and they won't have to suffer for a long time without diagnosis or treatment. NOT saying that kids who get CH are lucky at all!! Just that if they did happen to get it, they've got you. Hugz, Lizzie

"How worried?"--not at all; it will simply make your life unpleasant to "worry" about something that you cannot control and does not exist. Put your energy in taking care of yourself. If the children develop clusters, it will likely been in their late teens or later. Then you can use the energy to help them.

Im the lucky one in the family. No one else has any type of headache at all, but Im sure Ive given my parents a couple over the yrs. As others have posted, worrying is a waste of energy. Better off to just except fate if it occurs and be well armed with knowledge and understanding. Turts

I'm the only one in my family who has headaches, lucky me... My doc told me that there has been research done about if CH runs in the family, but he told me that it is not likely. PFDs, sandie99
