Has anyone here made it to the age of 40 without developing arthritis?? Got a hunch there aren't many.

I'm 47 and there are a lot of things wrong with me but I don't think arthritis is one of them. Jim

Just curious - some of the inflammatory chemicals associated with arthritis are elevated in cluster heads. I have always had weak joints, and my ankylosing spondylitis is killing me over the past few days - neck hurts, temples hurt, foggy.

This is an interesting question....I have had more joint pains in recent weeks along with my cycle....probably just coincidental, but who knows? I am 48 and have 2-3 hours of stiff/sore neck with some popping sounds in those joints. Also, lower back disc joints have been more sensitive and sore too over the past few weeks. I would bet that we are more at risk for arthritis than many others.....

Wes is nearly 50 and has no signs of Arthritis, I fail to see where the link is personally, I think maybe it's more likely coincidence with age etc....just my humble opinion, I see many patients however with arthritis due to my work (Chiropodist/Podiatrist) and none have CH....maybe the medication that Clusterheads take causes the arthritis....bit like which came first the Cherry or the Cherry Tree..?? Sure, arthritis becomes more common as we get older. And I wouldn't expect that all of us get it (although I did phrase my original post kinda that way). Just speculating that we have (on average) more arthritis than the general population. Chemicals that are associated with arthritis (IL-1B, TNF) are elevated in clusters, and those are a risk factor for arthritis. There are cytokine supressing therapies being used to treat arthritis. Wonder if they will try those out for CH.

I have Lupus and Rheumatoid arthirits. My Rheumatologist says that it's very common for people with inflammatory or auto immune disease to have migraines or clusters. Vi

I'm 57 and have it in my left thumb. And I know why. Because I'm right handed. I used to do a lot of wood working and my hammer wielding skills suck. Too many blows to the left thumb. And my father is 84 and my mother is 79. Niether have even a touch of arthritis. Neither do either brother, one older and one younger. Arthritis is something I ain't going to worry about.
