Going to my ignorant GP today..../vent

Since the Pain management guy said he couldnt help me my GP wants to see me today. I'm NOT going to get my hopes up AGAIN that he is going to help me at all. This freaking hell of a cycle has been going on since June and I just don't wanna do this no more (said whining like a big baby!) Like has been said many times you chronics are amazingly strong ppl! I just hate going to see my gp or any doc for that matter anymore cause I always get my hopes up that they will want to try a new med or SOMETHING to break or lessen the severity of my cycle. And they never do. Halfway through Jan is too long of a wait for the headache specialist..... at the PM clinic as the doc was telling me he couldnt help, my eyes just welled up cause i want to have at least a pf day for xmas (I;m not even asking for the PF night just the day!) I want to enjoy every moment of my kids opening gifts from santa, playing with them, then enjoy my family that comes to visit later in the day, I want to be there for all the "moments" so I can take tons of pics (I LOVE taking pics) I want to bake all my cookies and pies, etc without getting interupted with a CH. I just want to be normal for the holiday thats all.

Educate your doc! There is good material (buttons on the left) and on OUCH which you can print out and give your doc. I would highly recommend the first book (below) since it's written by a doc for a doc. Most docs don't have experience with cluster and most will accept help if it comes from sources which they recognize as main stream medicine. This is going to be a major way of getting past your frustration, hurt, & anger and into relief. ------------ MANAGEMENT OF HEADACHE AND HEADACHE MEDICATIONS, 2nd ed. Lawrence D. Robbins, M.D.; pub. by Springer. $49 at Amazon.Com. This volume is better organized and easier to read for nonprofessionals compared to Saper's book. It covers all types of headache and is primarily focused on medications. While the two chapters on CH total 42-pages, the actual relevant material is longer because of multiple references to material in chapters on migraine, reflecting the overlap in drugs used to treat. I'd suggest reading the chapters on migraine for three reasons: he makes references to CH & medications which are not in the index; there are "clinical pearls" about how to approach the treatment of headache; and, you gain better perspective on the nature of headache, in general, and the complexities of treatment (which need to be considered when we create expectations about what is possible). Finally, women will appreciate & benefit from his running information on hormones/menstrual cycles as they affect headache. Chapter on headache following head trauma, also. Obviously, I'm impressed with Robbins' work (even if the book needs the touch of a good editor!) (Somewhat longer review/content statement at 3/22/00, "Good book...." HEADACHE HELP, Revised edition, 2000; Lawrence Robbins, M.D., Houghton Mifflin, $15. Written for a nonprofessional audience, it contains almost all the material in the preceding volume but it's much easier reading. Highly recommended.

Going to a different doctor is a consideration. I have a very good friend who is a doctor and as a result of this, I go to parties and whatnot with her colleagues a good bit. All in all, I'd have to say that 80% of them are dumb-fucks I would not trust with handing me a Curad let alone discussing CHs. I have a GP who is excellent, tho. They are out there. Look for them.

Hey Tara, I know it is difficult. I have spent a few Christmas days having to excuse myself while i suffered in silence. I dont know where you are located, but surely you can find an understanding Doctor by using the Recommended Doctors at the OUCH site. You dont say if you can use Imitrex or not. But that is one way to keep from suffering on Christmas day. If you cant afford Imitrex, PM me today. I will make sure you dont suffer on that day! Love always, Patrick

Do you think that when they asked George Washington for his ID, that he just whipped out a One Dollar Bill?
