Military Veterans with CH needs help....

Hello, My name is Greg; I have been a chronic CH sufferer since 1997. I have had some relief ever since I started Verap (reg) and o2 along with imitrex injections. At times though I wish I had an imitrex drip. It took about 6 years for the docs and I to finally get some control over these things. For the 6 years I suffered uncontrollable CH averaging 6 to 8 a day, everyday without any relief. In June of 2000 I was medically discharge from the Air Force because of CH w/ a disability rating of 10%. I went though the VA since my CH and discharge was deemed service connected, this means that basically the VA treats me for these beast and gives me the meds to help. Anyway, Are there any US military veterans out here who have gone through the VA boards concerning CH? My problem here is that the medical board keeps my disability to 10% when all VA regulations state it should be a lot higher based on the severity and so on. I would like to hear of if your rated higher, what route you took, and any other pertinent info you can give me when I appeal this once again. If you like, please use my email so we can take it offline from the msg board. ( netgeko@aol.com ) Thanks and happy holidays to everyone. Greg

I'm a veteran with ch. I didn't go through any med boards with it, I didn't even know what ch was for a couple of cycles - just thought they were really bad headaches and that I was a wussy, because I couldn't handle it, consequently, I get no VA benefits. I'm glad you are at least getting some help. Welcome aboard. There's lots of nice folks here who are willing to help.

I'm a vet, too. My Rating is 30% but that was before I was blessed w/ CH. My med board was related to arthritus. I am familiar with the Medical Board process so e-mail me your questions. Welcome to da family. TomM

I got out of the military with Clusters. Didn't use the disability program figuring it would hurt my chances of getting a job. I am just an episodic though and can still work. Always wondered if there is a deadline on applying and if you have to be a Chronic to get an O.K.

I would suggest you contact the nearest DAV chapter and talk to their service officer. They have the medical appeals process covered better than most. Congress chartered them specificaly to help with veterans disabilities. I'll get an email off to you. TTFN Kirk: Vice Commander Chapt. 16 D.A.V OR.

My clusters didn't start until I was out of the service. Old Charlie claims it was a plot by the freakin right wind establishment to use agent orange on the military and give them CH. When it didn't work, they made guys sit under A-bomb detonations. I think the CH-agent orange experiment was a delayed success. I blame my headaches on Nixon! Charlie, is there room for one more on your side of the aisle?

I'm a vet too, but my clusters started long after my discharge. I use the VA for treatment but other than that I can't offer you assistance, sorry. I am happy with the treatment I get, much better than any I have gotten in the civilian sector. Good luck to you and welcome to the boards.
