Prednisone can have a nasty little habit of taking those HA's you don't get, and stockpiling a bunch of them for a couple real hard one's when you're done with it.... ... it's happened to me, and a few others on here if I remember correctly. -Big Dan

Sorry to say but... that med has gave me a moon face 9 which has now turned to wrinkles) ha ha and lots of pep ...but.. still had ch. but who knows what they may do for you. That wasone of the the firsts meds my dr. tried about 25 yrs ago. I would not have taken it if I would have known the side effects and no help.

Hi Ranger, Prednisone is a great drug for short term use. It breaks cycles for some sufferers. However, after the taper the headaches return.....but not always. Often other drugs (verapamil, lithium, etc.) are used in conjunction with the prednisone. The prednisone will help hold the HAs until the other drugs can get into your system. Did your doctor give you a taper to go by? Good luck and keep us posted.... Jacks

I took it almost 2 yrs ago for CH and I thought it was a wonder drug. I had no side effects from it broke my cycle. I started having CH again one week ago, went to Dr. yesterday he gave tons of rx, including prednisone and I don't even have a shadow today. I hoping this is a good sign! Good luck with it, but be careful. You are more apt to get infection with prednisone if you cut yourself or something and also if you get a temp of over 100 call you doctor. The dr also gave me a SSRI, so it will be in my system after the taper.

Hi Ranger, Today is 74 days pf for me, due to a Prednisone taper. You need to get taper instructions from your dr. Jackie is right....it doesn't work for everyone. But you never can tell. It seems to have worked for me (so far). I just take it one day at a time. Hope you stay pf........sending you best wishes and lotz of pf vibes.

Hi Ranger! I'm about to finish my predisone treatment and it didn't fo any good for me: instead of having just CH attacks, I had HAs and side effects! My dose was 80mg and the dose was recuced during the 4-week treatment every week, now I have 5mg/day for 3 more days. Like it has been said, it doesn't work for everyone. I'm glad, if does the trick for you! Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99

Ranger, I'm new to this site and new to a diagnosis of CH after 7 years of hell fighting h/a. E.R. doc gave me toradol and pred shot a week ago and they stopped all but the shadows for about 36 hours. He also gave me rx for both and pred directions call for 20 mg and I weigh 120 lbs. so seems to me 30 mg for a man would seem in line. The e.r. doc also did not give me taper instructions but to use at first onset of pain. After the 36 hours the CH came back even worse and I've taken 20 mg pred for 2 days now and have got no sleep, ate like a horse and maintaining about a kip 4 h/a. good luck and glad you are pf but hope noone bursts your bubble as I've read other replies and it appears it works differently for each person. txcowgirl (aka Renee)
