Just began a new battle with the Beast and thought I would seek some new ideas on the web for combat. Found CH, read many posts, and man is it good to know I'm not alone in this. I'm M44, episodic, last occurrence was 12/01 (normally it's once yr). Mine started 12/87, daily, 2-4 hrs, for 3-4 weeks, then it's over. Have used Imitrex (not especially effective), now trying Frovatriptan and have been very encouraged. I've knocked out 2 of 2 early stage (level 2) in the last 24hrs since filling this script. So my fingers are crossed. Anyway, it's good to know the next time I'm in a fetal positon at 4 in the morn., and agonizing; there are people out there that can relate, be positive therapy, and eventually defeat the beast! Look forward to sharing experiences. Craig in Oklahoma

Hi Craig, Welcome to the board. Lots of great information here and more friends than you can deal with!!!!! I am currently pf, due to a Prednisone taper. However, I also take the Frova. It does cut the time of my pain from 1-1 1/2 hours down to about 13 minutes. You will find that alot of meds do not work for everyone. The Frova is one of them. However, it worked for me! Keep posting and let us know how things are going. There is usually someone here round the clock. We look forward to getting to know you. Sending you lotz of pf vibes from Texas Jean

Thanks Jean! It's nice of you to reply. The Frova has been great for me, but as you know what works today, may not work tomorrow. That is the part I dread the most...Keep in touch.

Craig, So very true.....guess that's why we have to take it one day at a time, and try not to think about what might not work "tomorrow" LOL. You will notice (by reading the other posts) that for some, it takes a combo of meds to do the trick. I have not had to do that (yet). I went on a Prednisone taper 73 days ago, and have been pf ever since. But, for some, as soon as they stop the taper.....the CH returns. Guess I have been lucky (so far). This site IS pretty amazing! More info can be found here, then in the dr's office!!! We're here for ya, sweetie. As long as you stay with us, you will NEVER be alone! Jean

Thanks to all the previous well wishers! I just returned from a Civic club luncheon, stopped at WalMart to pick up a couple of things and I got caught...My basket 1/2 full and the big ugly settiing in. I abandoned the basket (no perishables) bought a vending machine drink & rushed to the car to midcate. Too late. Just got back to my office and saw the nice messages. Feel better already!!

Hi Dr. Huff.... Welcome to the family..sorry you are having a rough go of it right now. Things will get better for you....this bunch will see to it.... You mentioned some abortive meds that you're on. Are you taking any preventive medication? I was also wondering if you have tried 02 therapy....works great for many clusterheads around here with none of the nasty side effects. Again welcome to the family and please keep us posted on how you're doing. Hugs, Jacks ,wife of a chronic

Hi and Thanks Jackie. No I am not taking any preventative med's. I didn't know there was such a thing. The only prevental was "Sea Mist" that I thought would be the answer...that was back in '98 ha ha. As for the o2 therapy, yesterday was the first I knew of such. I was telling my wife about how informing this site was & o2 was a popular fix. Well we got a good laugh out of it when she said. "Oh well that will be nice, you can go out in the garage and smoke your cigar, then come in and take oxygen" I thought I was gonna fall out. Thats as far as I've been with the O2...I'm still LMAO! Thanks for your note and interest..talk to you more soon.

Hey Dr. Craig.............smoke the cigar after the O2. Otherwise your own breath will stink up the mask. But, whether you do it first or last, DO NOT smoke and huff O2 and the same time. Good luck to ya.

Hi Craig. I'm a newbie on this board also. I needed an emergency supply of IMITREX last week. The doc wasn't in so I talked to a substitute. She said since I'm almost done with my cycle (11 weeks 2 days) that it's too late to start a Prednisone taper. Hang in there and I'll send some good vibes your way!!

Craig, Welcome to Clusterville. the people here are a friendly bunch and very supportive. My suggestion (to the ones already given you) is to go to the left and click on the medical info and see what's available out there, copy it and take it to your doc to keep him "informed". Dr. Jerry's WATER TREATMENT works for a lot of us, O2 helps more (most of us swear by it), Imitrex is the "drug" of choice (I can't take it either, so I use Cafagot), and.... oh heck, just pull up a chair, get comfortable and start READING.... We have years of archives, you haven't even started on yet.... Hope you "hit" on the right treatment for you and that you're pain free in no time flat. Stay around... there's more that need support (too many more).. Grab an oar and start rowing. Take support when you need it - give it when you can... That's kinda the way it works around here. Hugs BD
