Does chocolate trigger anyone else’s CH’s during a cycle?  Chocolate and alcohol are the only things that I have to avoid during a cycle.  I have heard that alcohol is a trigger for many but haven’t heard much about chocolate.  If i eat a piece of chocolate durring a cycle it is inatant CH.

I've also heard that chocolate is a trigger for some but I really dont recall it triggering mine.  Might be because I just never ate it during the time.  Beer is really the only no-no for me.  Sad

I'm with Suzy... Beer - just can't do it ANYTIME.

But chocolate and other stuff (that trigger migraines) have never had any effect on mine. Even MSG doesn't bother me.

I still say the barometer has something to do with it. Have you noticed that a LOT of episodics get hit during spring and fall. That's usually when the barometer goes crazy. I've been noticing for years that when everyone gets sinus infections - I get hit BIG TIME. Ummmmm.....

I can't say.  But when I am in cycle, I avoid chocolate.

Triggers for me include cigarette smoke, any type of perfume, ink or toner from the copy machine, cleaners and ALCOHOL.

I also avoid citrus and all the other migraine triggers just in case.  I am super sensitive in cycle to smells.

I also mentioned the barometer, well, altitude, to CLusterChuck last nite, since his cycle started after a trip to the mountains.  Just thinking the change in oxygen or something triggered it.

Some say the fireplace is a trigger because of the O2 thing, so why not a change in altitude.

Yes Barbara you are so right.  I always have my cycle in the fall (missed this year, yea!) (wait...knock on wood) But I always notice while in cycle so many other people are suffering from sinus infection.  That is why for years I believed I had the same but just wondered why nobody else felt like killing themselves from it.  Undecided

The jury is still out on chocolate as a trigger I think but not so for alcohol.  It is for most of us.

But:

I've been PF for 12 years. I didn't drink much anyway and I almost never ate chocolate at the time. Nevertheless, I think I eat much more chocolate since my remission.  It wasn't a trigger for me, nor was alcohol.

No fun staying away from the good stuff. It sucks.
Maybe you have the right idea though. Knowing a trigger ain't a bad thing.

Good luck.

Chocolate doesn't bother me.  But any alcohol, especially wine, triggers and onions do also.  Smells bother me too, and toner is one of the biggies!  Never heard about the citrus smell thing.  Maybe I should put away that Orange Clean.

Mine also started in the fall or right after the holidays.

Same here. Alcohol is a big YES, and I could add onions to the list as well. Rest I didn't notice so far, but scents seem to trigger if they're strong. Chocolate not sure.

Chocolate sometimes gets me...not every time...those "Glade' plug in airfresher thingymigigies get me BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. I went to visit my sister in Miami last year and she had one of those bloody things in every room turned up to high. I was getting slammed with HA's. I made her throw them all out and then no more HA"S.

hehe I am soooo very sick of hearing that.  "Well it sounds like you have CH, but you can't be because you are female" bullshit. I mean really  wtf  I would love to have my doctor feel just one of these damn HA's and then get cramps on top of it and tell me that we just need to wait it out and see what will happen next.  Cause it will soon be me smacking him up side his head.  bash

But to answer the question, no chocolate does not seem to trigger them, but I can't seem to eat it liike i used to.  I mean I used to be able to eat a big bar of chocolate in one sitting no issue, but now just a small piece is all I can handle at one time.  Wierd.

I haven't detected anything that triggers my Ch's. Although I quit smoking cigs in May and they have reduced in numbers. The list of "don't eat or drink this" my Doc gave me eliminated all the stuff I like. Chocolate, cheese, beerbigcrycitrus fruit etc. One thing I could eat was pickled herring...mmmmmmmfish in a jar.      I still eat and drink anything I want and have yet to establish a pattern. confused

Chocolate as a trigger?  That would definitely make me suicidal!

Alcohol use to always be a trigger for me.  The last 6 months is doesn't seem like it is anymore.  But very fragrant flowers KILL me!  The scent just goes straight up the nose into the head for instant pain!  I discovered that while in the hospital and somebody sent me flowers!  OH LORD!!

Speaking of sugar free..........
Have you seen the breath freshener strips that desolve on you tongue?
Altoids advertises their's as Sugar Free. How much sugar can be put in one of those strips? Are they diet supplements?
Or Tums "Now With Calcium". Do people really think they are going to save their bones while stopping heatburn?

I actually crave Peanut Butter Cups when I'm in cycle, when normally I don't even like candy.

... As far as triggers, it's only alchohol, but when I'm shadowing or on a low level Kip, real spicey food seems to make the pain sharper....

For me chocolate is not a trigger.
On the contrary I need it (or something else sweet) after an attack, otherwise I become crazy.

And yes,  beer and alcohol... they are triggers for me.

Only the smell can provoke an attack.  Grin

Alchol is a trigger.

Coffee and chocolate are abortives for ch.

Chocolate is a known meegraine trigger.

WDGCH!

I had a lady e-mail me a while back complaining that the white pages on the OUCH site were too bright for her meegraines.

I crave salty or spicy foods after a hit, but never sweets.  Of course I crave chocolate constantly!

As for Tums with calcium, besides stopping heartburnand giving you a daily supply of calcium, they will stop you up!  Know what I mean? frown
