Who is chronic?

I know this has been talked about in past threads.....okay, truthfully.....I looked and can't find it in the archives. But, how many people here are chronic, and how does your head treat you? Are you in a heavy cycle right now, or a light one? What meds are you taking? I'm wanting to get off of my verap, and was wondering how many other chronics are taking it. PFDAN, Tracey

My hand is up Roxy. Head is mis-treating me right now. Heavy cycle with-in normal cycle. Imitrex, 02 and Amerge. Tried Veramail again but is doing nothing for me. Linda

- chronic 10yrs, never been episodic - verapamil 240mgx2/day, depakote 250mgx2/day - trex injections and O2 - moderate "cycle" I haven't found a preventative that works yet, and I just added the depakote at the end of October. Chris

Chronic for 4 years. I take 180mg time release verap 2 times sometimes 3 tmes a day...depending on how my head is acting. I know chronics get cycles within their chronicness. I am doing very well right now just on my verap..head has quietened down for the moment...so me well happy right now...would never come off my verap...that to me would be asking for trouble.

I don't know, I may be chronic. Constant shadows since Sept 2001... a good portion of that time medicated with verapamil or shrooms. I recently tried tapering off verapamil (again) and couldn't do it (again). At least verapamil is very effective for me. Praise be to Verapamil. --- Steve

I am chronic and can't take verapamil. I tried it and it did nothing for me except give me an irregular heart beat. I am using fentanyl patch and have been pain free for quite a while now.

Chronic. Been taking Topamax since Aug 1999 and up until recently it has been working (only breakthrus if you don't count the shadows). The past few months, it seems to have quit working. Back to one - six HAs a day now. Cafegot when headaches hit. DHE when it gets really too much to handle to try to break "cycle" within cycle or whatever the hell is going on. Ready to try shrooms, but have to go off meds first. Verap didn't work on me and neither did much of anything else. Topamax has been my lifesaver, but now I don't know about it...... Not much fun........ Hugs BD

Ciao Tracey ! -I have been episodic for 10 years and now I'm chronic. My neurologist (Doc. Bussone, who was in Rome for cluster club ) says that I am chronic because I do not have any clusters as usual in spring and autumn but during all the year long. I am well for a week and then start again with attacks. That is, I do not have clusters as a typical episodic sufferer. BTW: - Lithium (600 mg) + Verapamil (480 mg) evey day.... this combo works for me... - Imitrex shots, O2, Lidocaine, I bang my head against a wall... - Yes... - Fuck Beast... Zaira

Chronic since March of last year. Episodic 23 yrs prior to that. On 240mg verap twice a day. Tried upping it by 60mg, but bottomed out blood pressure and almost passed out while driving. 300mg Lithium twice a day for the last month and feel almost humanoid again. Still have heavy shadows, but able to function. Just cant sleep at night. Occasional burnthroughs that I just tough out. Jerry

Tracey, Me is chronic....LOL For 6 years now. I'm in a bad cycle with it now, and i take 720 mg of verap a day. I don;t think it's helping much, but too scared to quit taking it for the CH reason, which would lower my dose because i also take it for my heart condition. Also taking Depakote too 1500 mg a day. And Randy, i hope your full bodied condom gets a tear in it. .LMMFAO!!!!!! (just kidding... ) Mikey,
