I've always called it "The Evil Clown" - think sharp teeth and a proclivity for brain tissue... But then, I have issues with clowns, so it was a natural metaphor. Hirvimaki

while i can relate with "beast", calling it "dancing" does not do it justice for me. More like "sparring with a pissed-off Mike Tyson". grant

It is called "Coulrophobia". It comes from the Greek kolon, a limb. Yes, strange. But if you look at the related kolobathristes, a stilt-walker, it makes more sense. This is as near to a suitable classical allusion that can be reached using acient Greek, since the ancient Greeks didn't have a word for a clown in our modern sense. Hirvimaki

In Chicago, fear of clowns is spelled: JohnWayneGacyophobia. I call it: getting in the ring for 12 rounds with George Foreman and Mike Tyson. and there's no taking a dive.

Dancing Demon From my tomb he raised my head To view the living and the dead On life’s horizon there did dance A proud, animated prance A demon beautiful to see Dancing out our destiny Veiled from the mortal mind and eye A living diamond in the sky Shined down on the magic show And lent to it a sacred glow And the angels gathered there All as one begin to stare And as the little demon danced Every soul became entranced Mixed a slow and steady beat With magic, flashing, spinning feet Shining, crackling like a blaze She danced destiny in days Changing forms strike you blind A different view for every mind At first a pretty dancing girl Then a dervish in a whirl Savior hanging on a stake Prostitute or pretty snake And as the angels fell in trance They joined the demon in the dance Forgot the scared Light above Forgot, in time, the law of love Forgot the sacred land sublime Burned by self and lost in time No force on earth could break the gaze Of the angels in the blaze Moved by pity from on high God sent down his son to die And when the beauty of his face Joined the demon in his place The sacred beauty from above Woke the angels to his love Then the angels turned their eye To the diamond in the sky And the demons spell was broke Disappeared as angels woke And even though she dances still She has lost the power to kill Now every heart and every eye Can see the diamond in the sky SL/Harvey Felts

Hi! I think "beast" does cover ch very well... I call mine "The Devil", because that's what I think it really is. Hmm... It would be so easy if saying a prayer would be the end of the pain...! Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99

In light of your question, Taraann, I took a walk down memory lane this morning (visited the archives).... The word "beast" first appeared in a post title in April of 1999, by Holly. Jack Boyd was the first to answer her and MartyS was the first to acknowledge that he also called it "the beast". Here's the link to that thread... http://www.clusterheadaches.com/wwwboard/messages/5704.html All y'all (that's me, impersonating an American ) really SHOULD visit the archives sometime - it's a real kick seeing some of the first ever surveys, comparisons, etc. You'll find classic posts there from BobP, Jackie Boyd, Hubster, lowercase Bob (who coined the term "OUCH" and wrote Symphony for the Devil), Doc Jerry who brought us the water treatment - major history makers in our archives. Just dawned on me that it's been almost 5 years to the day that I found this place too! Holy wow!

I just knew someone would take the time to search it for me I really appreciate that. BTW how did this turn into a thread about clownophobia (or correctly called Coulrophobia) LMAO
