Guess today is my day to blow up.....

Just got in from the ER. Had to take hubby over there in an ambulance - he went out on me (again - about a once a month thing). Well Dr. Idiot comes in - I give him hubby's history and what we need done. Hubby is "out of it". Doesn't even know where he is or who he is for that matter. Dr. Idiot sends a nurse in to tell me he wants to do a spinal tap. I say "no' he just had one a month ago and it was neg. so let's not do another one - they hurt and there's not a reason. Dr. Idiot then decides to just "release" hubby cause he can't find anything wrong. I BLEW! I was at about a 5 on the Kip Scale about that time and when I heard that, I just went postal. The man couldn't even sit up without help, much less walk - what the hell was he going to do when we got home - sit in the car all night or fall on his face in the yard? I told Dr. Idiot to either admit him and do something for him or get a REAL doctor in there immediately or else he was going to have more trouble than he ever dreamed of having cause I had a cluster headache and he might ought to look up what the hell they were cause he was going to find out first hand. Now move his butt and get something done. Hubby was admitted 5 minutes later. Got him settled and got the paperwork out of the way - kissed him goodnight and told the nurse to take care of him I was going home to take something for my CH and left. Got home and took some cafagot. Am down to about a 2 now and still shaking all over. That Idiot Dr. I'm wondering WHERE the hell he got his medical license! What ever happened to the Dr. Kildaire's or the Marcus Welby's or even the Ben Casey's? Nowadays we get these little med school wonders who don't have enough sense to empty bedpans. They just want to run a bunch of tests. Ok, I'm going to bed now - think I'm easy enough to try to sleep a little while. My two hours sleep last night is about to run out and I need rest. Ya'll have a pain free night. C ya tomorrow. Hugs BD

So sorry to hear you're on a bumpy road right now, Barb. BIG hugs. You have a son, right? Can he help with Dad's care? You need to fortify your support network - you're spreading yourself pretty thin and that sure isn't helping you battle the beast. Send your Superwoman's cape to the drycleaners for a coupla days, lady, and enlist some helpers. Are we clear on this, Crystal?

Margi don't even get me started on Son. The only redeeming quality he has is that he gave me MY grandson Caleb (21 months old and Granny's shinning light and the MOST wonderful grandchild ever born in case you were wondering - the girls at McDonald's just LOVE seeing his latest pics LOL!). HE WORKS 8 hours a day and is TIRED! No help there. Hubby sounded better this morning. He's still running a temp so he needs a couple of days of antibiotics, but maybe his "regular" doc will see the wisdom of listening to me. I've got a call into his office now. He's usually pretty good about doing what I tell him. He's young, but I told him to stick around and I'd get him broken in right. I think my "old" doc talked to him and told him to listen to me. What really gets to me is these docs see a patient for 10 or 15 minutes and think they "know" everything. The patient's family lives with them 24/7 and sees this stuff all the time. Now weigh both sides and SEE which one would know what is BEST for the patient. DUH? Why the hell can't the docs see this? Why can't they LISTEN? Are they still teaching GOD 101 in med school? I'm for going back to the horse and buggy days when the "family doc" KNEW his patients and KNEW what they needed without all the modern tests (yeah yeah some of them are good, but some of them are a waste of time and money). The days when ONE doc treated a WHOLE person and not just PARTS. We had specialists back then, but not as many and we didn't go to them unless we really needed them. And we did a whole lot better healthwise - and it was a whole lot cheaper on us and the insurance companies. Of course that was BEFORE the damn government got into the act. Ok, I've vented... My Congressman and Senator are tired of hearing this so ...... Hugs BD

| And one of my favorite quotes is "Kites fly highest "against" the wind. Sounds to me like you're flying pretty high right now....against a strong headwind. Sounds as if you can hold your own, toe to toe with anyone. And that's what it takes to get the kind of care that anyone deserves. I know, I went through it with my mother and my sister (both now deceased).....it's like pulling teeth to get anything done. And the ER doctors could care less. I really feel for all of our elderly patients who are left with no one to see that they are getting proper care. Anyway, I'm glad that you're feeling a little better and hope that things improve for both of you. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Keep soaring (like the kite).

Barb, Unfortunately, Hospitals and Private practices alike are controlled by office politics. the A.M.A has for a while now been trying to limit the amount of hours Docs have to work ( In the name of patient safety) and recommend certain Time limits to maximize productivity........the sad part is we the patients are cought in the limbo between proper examination and treatment, and the inevitable "time is money" theory. Therefore you get much more blanket diagnoses, fewer tests, and general treatments for things like pain, infections, etc. The greatest portion of patients coming to practices and hospitals are Trauma , and general illnesses...flu, colds, etc. so the few of us cluster folk kinda get weeded out and hence "Its just a Headache" anymore it seems that if it isn't a risk of death its not worth much time. the last part is just my opinion. We really don't know what's wrong with him. His electrolytes just bottom out every so often and he runs fever and goes "out" on me. His hemoglobin drops to nothing and he gets "broke". We take him into ER, get him some saline and some rocephlin and he stays in the hospital a few days and he's fixed for a while. They've run every kind of test imaginable on him and can't find out WHY, but it keeps happening and we keep doing the same thing to make it better. He has altzheimers and a lot of other things wrong also, but this mess is just a pain in the rear. He'll be fine and then boom! 9-1-1 time. Heck I took him in one time (we'd been on the Interstate and had a flat when he went "out"on me - a nice policeman fixed the flat so we could get to ER). The doc asked me what was wrong. I looked at him and said, "He's BROKE - FIX him!" We actually got some stuff done that time. But I agree - if you're sick and don't have someone there fighting for you - you're not going to get anything done. It's not right but it's the way it is. In ER you get the "luck of the draw" and start from square one every time. We've been in about once a month and haven't seen the same ER doc twice. When I tell them to call his regular doc, they give me some cock and bull story. I have called him myself and told him to get his rear down there and get the ER doc out of there at times. They don't show much respect and neither do I. I feel like they need to EARN respect. But I'm a bitch - what do I know. Anyhow, if any of you go to ER, don't let them push you around. YOU HAVE RIGHTS. Just read that little thingy they have posted on the wall. IT's very interesting. They even have a 1-800 number to call in case you don't think you've been treated with proper respect and courtesy. I have been known to quote it to them. (I really don't think very many people read things on the wall in ERs). They get a lot nicer when you start quoting to them. TODAY THE ERS --- TOMORROW THE INSURANCE COMPANIES............. Hugs BD

God Bless Barb D...... we're going through the same stuff with Daves mom... oh boy... ain't easy is it... she called the other day to ask who booked her into the hotel she was in... Everyday is like the movie Ground Hog Day with her... she repeats and repeats and sometimes within a few seconds of the first time. It totally breaks my heart, to see her changing right before our very eyes and this lady was a pistol in her day. You are a complete angel and that man was lucky to have you in his life. How many other people would be as diligent as you to be sure he has the proper treatment... I wish I was there to give you a great big hug and kiss... you are truly a woman to admire...love ya lady and glad to see ya back ree
