Missing school

Hey folks,

I'm new to the board and was wondering if anybody can help me with a problem.  I'm in the midst of a pretty bad cycle and this morning I woke up with a debilitating 9-10 killer.

The big problem is, I was unable to attend a class and subsequently missed a mandatory exam.  The consequence for missing just one exam is an automatic F in the class.

I emailed the professor explaining that I can provide documentation from my neurologist about my condition but have not received a response yet.  The pessimist in me believes that it won't hellp at all.  Has anybody had any experience with a situation like this?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello slacker 032,
I was out of work from july 20th until last week. Along with a note
From the doctor I stopped in work occasionally and when I happened to be there one time when my boss was free for a moment I pulled up this web site at his desk and selected a few interesting pieces of info for him. He understood then.
Worked for me. I hope this helps. Look around, you can learn alot here. When these things kick in, life can stop for a while.
  Take care,
  ...Mark..

hi Slacker: sorry you missed your exam but  in cucumstances were an exam is not able to be completed because of a severe medical condition this may be considered a valid reason for special consideration in form of either a supplementary exam or grading consideration . sending you a email tsay

Hey Slacker,
Welcome to the board.

Maybe sending this to your teacher would kinda explain to him that it's not JUST a headache that kept you away?  It might at least make him understand a little better?

Yes...I had the same thing happen to me. I was making straight "A's" in Symbolic Logic and then starting missing classes then a test. I ended up having my neurologist send a note after speaking with the "Students With Disabilities" office and I was able to sit out that semester and take it over. Sometimes things get tough and you got to worry about yourself first, re-group, and come back later.

My son is eposodic and in high school.  I have found he usually gets hit around the same time every day.  So he misses the same classes every day.  He is down in the nurses office and has a dr. exuse but the school still wont accomodate him and insists that he be in class everyday.  Since I am also a sufferer of ch I have tried to explain to them you don't want him in the classroom when he is getting hit.  He needs to move around and can't focus or concentrate while getting hit.  The best thing we have found is for him to fail the class and then take it over in the summer when he isn't getting hit.  The school makes me so mad that they won't work with us on this.

I started getting clusters my sophmore year in high school.  I spent a lot of time crying in the nurse's office.  They only allowed 1 hour in the office and at that time my clusters were lasting longer because I wasn't diagnosed, had no meds, and I had absolutely no idea what was going on.  I don't believe I ever missed an exam, but I almost got suspended skipping school because they were going to make me go back to class.  Got a long lecture from the principal the next day.  I was pissed.   Angry

Thanks for all the wonderful info and support everyone.  You guys are great.  Smiley

I got response from my professor and it looks like I'll be ok with a note from my neurologist.  The only possible hitch is that my neurologist is based in Louisiana while I go to school in California.  Hopefully my professor will accept it.

Thanks again.

That is absloultely amazing to me. Surely their are resources you havent explored. If not i would definitly go to the school board.
I too suffered from CH's in school. Unfortunately i didnt realize what they were and luckily they rarely visited me in class. This was when i usually only got my nighttime attacks.
God, I wish i was a lawyer and rich! I would sit on this board and take cases Pro Bono just for the enjoyment of it!

Hi and welcome aboard. It's imperative that you make them realize that this has little to do with what people know as headache. These sites are work a looksee.
