Cholesterol, CHs & Lipitor

Hello everyone, My name is Sam and I haven't posted anything for almost 18 months (my remision period). I thought I'd pass along some information which may or may not be of any use. During my last CH phase (Sep 2001-March 2002), I went to a Neurologist, who prescribed Endural (a common bloodpressure med). Although I didn't have any headaches from that point forward, I am reluctant to claim that it really made a difference, because it was almost March before I started the med (end of CH phase). I went off the Endural after March 2002. Last year however, after having suffered CH attacks every year, in the September-October timeframe since my early teens, I did not suffer from a single CH. It could be coincidence, but after having extremely high cholesterol for my entire adult life, I finally agreed to try Lipitor, beginning in July of 2002. Could this have been the reason I was CH free for the first year of my adult life? I don't know. I do know that I went off of Lipitor this past April (I was a poor patient and didn't get my blood tested regularly as requested by my Dr, so he refused additional refills), and, as of September 12th, my CHs are back!!! I intend to call my Dr and beg, plead, whatever it takes, to put me back on Lipitor. If it helps my cholesterol, great, but if it cures me from CH...WOW. I'll let you know. If anyone else has had a similar experience, please inform. Best regards, Sam

I've been in Lipitor for several years and have not seen any change in my clusters. Have never seen any medical literature linking clusters with this class of drugs and, given its mode of action, don't see how it could affect clusters. Assume you are using Inderal. It was used for many years to treat clusters but most folks found it didn't help much. Not to say that you are one of the lucky people who is finding it helpful.

Welcome back Sam...Sorry you had to stop in...as Sam says doubt that Lipitor had anything to do with the CH, but Inderal use probably bought you the time...Inderal works well for many in the right dose...so would give it a try first...Keep us posted on how you progress...
