I am getting close to the climax of my cycle, so I haven't been around much to give support to those who need it, and keep up with the latest news.

I have NEVER had to leave work with a CH, mostly because I get them at night, and when I have gotten them at work, I just take some meds, keep working and they usually go away within 30 minutes or so, but a couple of days ago, I got hit about 2:30 while I was at work, and I tried everything I knew to halt the beast, but to no avail.  I had to have my shower!!!  So for the first time ever I had to leave work and drive with a CH and I was absolutely terrified, it was raining and I had to have my sunglasses on, and had to keep ice on my eye as much as possible.  Has anyone ever had this experience?  It was NUTS!

Thanks Kim!  I've been through it before, and I'll get through it again, but the pain gets forgotten when out of cycle and then remembered 10 fold when back in cycle.  Thanks for the encouragement!

I've been hit a few times while driving.  It's an adventure and, uh, very unsafe.

I don't think the other drivers realize what a hazard is driving in their midst.  Yikes, Zoinks, whatever.

When I'm at an amusement park, I usually have to buy 2 or 3 tickets to get THAT good of a ride!

I don't know if you know what the Henry Horner homes are in Chicago, but it's a housing project and an INCREDIBLY unsafe place for a small, white boy to pull over.   I was THAT stuck.  I couldn't see, I could barely hold on to the steering wheel.

I can't describe the perilous position I was in.  I thought I was dead meat.  I couldn't have defended myself.

Oh my God....I remember once driving to my Dr's office with a raging 8 or 9....I took an Emitrex tab ( I didn't get shots....don't know why except for expence to the county I guess)....but the Dr gave me a shot....quickly....and it still took awhile before calming down.....I though I was going to crash for sure....

Now I try not to drive late afternoon alone for long trips....just to and from work....and don't do out of town during the cycle....too scary!!!!

I'll probably get screamed at........what else is new Cheesy

Cluster attacks hit when they hit.  In my experience that's just how it goes.  Most of the time it's a "set yer watch" thing.  However, sometimes they go haywire........that's the true test for us all.

Most of the time I get hit during the times in the day when I am "most relaxed" or in the "comfort zone".  However, in the 25+ years I've had clusters, I've had those HAIRY times when the beast knocks at an extremely "inconvenient" time.   It may be just ME, but I hung on DETERMINED that it would not do me under.  That means that during those times I simply could NOT give in.  And I DID NOT.   There were times when I DID cave -- but for the most part I carried on.  I don't know why, but I cannot tolerate people seeing me in that frame of mind.  I will do anything to carry on as if nothing is wrong....?  Am I the only one???? ??? I'd rather DIE than have someone see the beast in it's full fury.  So, I do what I do and it goes away .....what else can ya do?

And so:  I confess:  I have NEVER pulled to the side of the road while being hit driving.  I dropped my head to one side (the painful one) and let it RIP - all the while knowing exactly what I was doing.  I NEVER fainted from a cluster attack.  NOT EVER!  I have sat with President of a company and eye is streaming and nose is running, but guess what?  I freakin SAT there and "did what I had ta do!"  In my own telling of the story -- to me -- there was NO CHOICE. ...

I did once have to leave the city and get drivin home cuz I lost it.  That was ONCE in 25 years.

I sat in public having an attack and DID NOT bang my head or draw attention to myself.  I endured it.  It went away.  And then I was tired and wondered when the next hell would erupt in my face....

I wish you all pain free days.  I did not say this to pat myself on the head.  I said it because clusters cannot kill you.  It is a feeling of "intolerable" pain......YES.  But guess what?  We can do it!!!!!!

I 100% agree with you Kim, that is the norm for me too!  I have always endured, but after an hour of complete torture, and pacing from my desk to the bathroom, my boss came into my office, took one look at me and said go home, I didn't even think to tell him no.  I wanted my shower,

I have always suffered silently, I guess because I've had these since I was 12 years old, I am now 29 and have learned to deal with those freak attacks that come at an inoppotune time, I hardly ever give in to the beast while at work or an important event.

like I said in my first post, that was the first time in 17 years I have ever left work, or even drivin with a CH and I was ready to just get  through the rest of my day.

You SHOULD pat yourself on the back Kim, we all should, there are no tougher people in the world than those who suffer with this sh*t....

I started with episodic clusters at just about the same age as you aprilbee.  I am now 42.  So, it could be we just learn over time to cope better than others not so long lived with this affliction.  I remember being at school.....I was on track and field, gymnastics and tennis teams.  I vividly remember sitting in class during the day and wondering what I would do if we had a "meet" that day and "what if I get a headache?"  I'm an ole lady now with three kids and life is good, but the headaches persist (episodic)....they are not NEW to me, and so, there is a certain amount of resignation - "here we go again"...rather than sheer panic.  I think the longer you have had clusters, the more you can put them in their proper perspective.....

it hurts - but - it don't kill.  I could have drawn a much worse card outa life. Smiley  That knowledge helps me to be positive. Smiley

I agree. Recently on a road trip I had an attack start. My left eye started tearing as usual and the right eye was getting moist in sympathy. I said to the wife “If these people only knew that I have a headaches and can’t see past the end of the hood, I bet they’d stay away from us”.  Shocked

She didn’t think that was funny.  Cheesy

Go figure.

Why don't wives have a sense of humor in situations like this?   ....  Go figure!!!

Sort of like my wife beating the crap out of me, when she peeks over my shoulder and sees me doing over 100 miles an hour on my motorcycle.  IMHFO, not the best time to be beating on me ... But that is just MY opinion ... Again ... no sense of humor ...

Or ADVENTURE !!!
