Saw the Doc yesterday...

I went into my Doc appointment yesterday knowing what I wanted, and wasn't leaving til I got it.
He gave me a prescript for o2, and two scripts for Imitrex; one for injections and the other for pills. Walgreens said they could only fill one at a time and had given me the pills. They told me to come back today and I should be able to get the injections. Well, I went back, they looked it up and told me it was 'refill too soon.' I told them if I had to make a choice, I wanted the injections over the pills, and that I hadn't opened the pills and could bring them back. They told me I would have to call my case worker at medicaid to get this straightened out. Talk about frustrating. When my CW calls back, I am gonna tell them that due to the nature of my condition, I need the fastest acting form of Imitrex to abort my attacks. If it weren't for the kindness of a bro near me, I wouldn't have any Imitrex injections right now.

I still don't understand why it never worked for me in the past, but am glad it is finally working for me now. I tried the Imitrex tip DJ has on the board here (in the menu to the left.) I have been giving myself 1/3rd shots, and it is working. In fact, sunday night I slept a total of 9 1/2 hours and only got woke up once with a raging CH. Did the Trex and it was gone within 20 minutes and I passed back out (I did a whole shot that night.)

To anyone who is frustrated with being chronic and feeling hopeless : I didn't think life was worth living for the longest time. Was constantly racked up in pain, and very depressed. If you want proof of this, search the CH archives, or just ask someone here who knows me.

Things CAN change for the better. Don't give up hope.

Peace,
Carl D

Carl, I am so happy to know you have found some relief bro. But i want to say something that happened to me that might apply to you as well. I 1st went to my Neuro in 1997, and because i had been on every medication under the sun for the last 25 years, i was highly sceptical when he wanted to put me on Verapamil and Prednisone. I tried it for maybe 4 days and didnt get any relief so i threw it away and announced he was another quack. MY Mistake, In fact, a HUGE mistake it was. When i went back to him in 2003, he put me on the same dosage and it broke my cycle completely in about 7 days. Maybe i was close to the end of it, I dont know. I do know this. I havent had a CH since i started that cocktail. I am off of it now, and have been painfree for about 2+ weeks.
The moral to this story is....Dont give up, and dont be so sceptical when ur Neuro wants ya to try something that is known to work!
Carl, If ya need any Imitrex help, send me a PM! I might can help ya a bit!

You needed this break.  It was tearing my heart out to hear you suffer!  I hope it is a good long break, too.  How about 75 years of break?

LOL...I understand that as much as anybody. I got a whole list of drugs that didnt work for me. BUT, I got to the point of not trusting them and discounting all their help! That was a huge mistake for me!

Carl,

Congrats!  It's a liberating feeling when you finally see that light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a train coming head on at you.

Many of us reach that end-of-the-rope stage, and become not just skeptical, but bitter at all the suggestions from these quacks we call doctors.  The thing is, you can't find help if you stop trying things.  You've got to admit, your mental state while in the depths of despair isn't really helping you make the best decisions.  So, for any of you in hell right now, take heed.  Don't stop looking or listening.

Hey hey - this is for Carl_D and the others who sent the nice words...I went to my new neuro today...and he was a peach!!

He admitted up front that he hasn't worked with a lot of clusters lately - but he had earlier in his career. He's pretty bummed about sansert (LORDY, so am I). He made a lot of calls and worked with me for an hour researching and talking to me.

He got me O2, prednisone and more imitrex.

It was so nice just to have a doc LISTEN and UNDERSTAND.

Hot diggity. I'm doing my O2 dance - no more yucky lithium!!!
