I am a 30 year Cluster headache person before they labled it C.H. the doc's called it stress or just migraines. Before imitrex, before chat boards I was deep into this. I used, (up to yesterday) 5 or 6 shots of imitrex a day, a huge amount. I haven't had headaches for 3 years that required a shot until 4 weeks ago when I stopped taking Celexa. I started taking Celexa when I got really bummed out that my wife left me. I didn't think that it helped at all with the rotten feelings that I had and I didn't notice that it helped my headaches because it took about 5 or 6 weeks to stop them, and then I didn't realize it was the Celexa until I stopped taking it. So when they came back, balls to the wall everyday, all night, anytime anyplace, one hour after I took a shot, another headache. My new wife, a Medical school student, distressed and almost crying for me to watch me suffering in deep intense pain. She pushed me to continue the Celexa and I did. Now I think it's working. I woke up today without a headache I couldn't believe it. I only hope this is not a false hope. I can't miss anymore work, scare my family, wife and dogs with my screams of pain. No one really knows except you guys and girls. Kip Burbank

Hey Kip, Celexa is probably your miracle cure. There are other people on the board that take anti-depressants as a preventatvie. For some reason, adjusting the serotonin seems to help. Good luck .......... and stay on the Celexa !!!!!!!!

Thanks Kip, your story just proves how difficult this is to treat. Last spring I started taking SSRI's for depression. I think I tried every one on the market. They made my headaches ten times worse but I am chronic. Strange that you would benifit but we see that sort of thing all the time. If it works, do it! Lee

Hey Lee, just so you know ... I am sure an SSRI brought mine on for the first time. I think it has to do with getting the serotonin level right and keeping it there. Just a guess ....... but it's mine !!!!!!!!! I know I will never do another SSRI in my lifetime ......... just the way I feel. Without them, I do great. Some people befefit from them tough. Another great mystery !

| Same here One eye, I thought I would kill that headshrinker, she kept insisting I take them. She did admit later she had never had a chronic clusterhead for a patient and most headaches caused by these went away in a week or two for (normal) folks. Lee

Good for you! Ya can never be sure about stuff like this. Perhaps this thing stops or starts some mechanism that does the job in your case. Finally, someone gets a break. Continued good luck. Charlie

Very interesting. At about the same time my dosage was increased from 20 mg to 40 mg, my headaches started to disappear. Could be coincidience. Or you could be on to something.

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have spoken too soon. I had a few good days and now I am back in trouble. A half hour after I go to bed, I need a shot, when I wake up, I need a shot, mid day, a shot. Not good.

My experience with Celexa was that it worked well for about a year and then gradually lost it's efficacy. We slowly upped the dosage until I reached max dose and then we stopped it because I could not try Frova while using Celexa. It has had some success with others here as well, but again, it's one of those temporary fixes. I hope you are able to find something that works well consistently! Cat

I am bumbed out. I was on a high dose of celexa for a couple of years and it did nothing for me. I never knew it could be used to help stop clusters. Hmmm. I was on it for depression. Now I am disapointed. Another med I tried that didn't work. Gee Wiz.
