What do you feel when it's coming.... the muscle around my eyes feel like they are drawing up... into a squint no matter how much i try to relax ..then the eye pain starts...then the whole face hurts....moves down into my neck....it's like from the inside out...and if it reaches the skin it's a 10

I feel something specific, hard to describe, inside near the back of my head first that just tells me something is coming. Then the eye starts to squint, then starts drooping and the knife and other stuff starts to develop for our full relationship.

Like tsayswhy said, it feels like my skull is tightening up. My eye starts to water and my nose starts to drip a little. Then the screwdriver arrives..........

The body does get hotter during an attack. Sometimes it's obvious and you feel hotter or flushed, other times you might not notice it. At least that's how me and mine act.

Mine starts one of two ways. Either I feel a headache comming on, or I fell like I am getting a toothache. Either one, all I have to do is push in on the side of my head, just back from my eye, above my cheek bone (I think) there is an indentation there. If it is extremely tender there or painful, I know the beast is coming back! And then the stuff hits the fan! Chuck

Various precursers for me...used to be an acidic smell now the left side of the roof off my mouth starts to "swell".....at least it seems that way...and the pain arrives there as well as eye and bridge of nose....and hey why does the bridge of my nose hurt so much?...it's hell to keep my O2 mask on. ...it seems to exacerbate the pain there at the bridge of my nose and corner of my eye...I have to hold my mask down or off my nose sometimes...which is OK...since I suck with my mouth. Good grief den

mine starts in my neck. Right where the thyroid is. Right side. Feels like its swelling up like a swollen gland. Then the pain shoots up the side of my face and hits my temple and eye with a bang. 0 to 10 in about 30 seconds. Then the eye and nose get going. Pretty sight. Good luck. Wishing you all PFDAN always, Linda T

At the point at which I know it's comming, I feel a tightness on the right side of the head. Then a strange sensation that my right nostral is wide open and when I inhale through it, it feels clear and cold. Then my eye sags and tears up and the clear cold feeling turns into a stuffed up sinus and the throbbing pressure of it lets me know the exact physical dimensions of the seemingly too large blockage. I've already applied the o2 mask by then. Lets not go any further ...please Steve G

What about your behaviour? My first sign is the squinting sensation of the eye, followed by a sharp pain that causes me to actually jolt my head. Thats how I know that the shadows are getting thick and the storm is on its way. Then my behaviour changes. I become quiet and withdrawn and before I know it I have NO tolerance and become aggressive and short with people. The muscles across my back become tight, and my breathing becomes short and grunt like. Thats when the beast puts on his riding spurs and tap dances on my face. Similarly I get a tight pinching feeling at the bridge ofmy nose. At the peak of an attack it feels like my nose is broken and my teeth have been kicked in with a steel cap boot. When i get an attack at night, this is the point when I end up having a shower, and bashing my forehead and cheek against tile. As you all know as quickly as it hits its gone and I end up wondering what the hell has just gone on.

During the day, when i am fully conscious. I start getting this little center of fire in my temple area, just a bit warm feeling, and it starts spreading to my eye, to the back of my head and inward towards my sinuses. When it has reached all corners, it expands in intensity. From my 1st onset of symptoms, I have approximately 20 minutes before it is unbearable. The pressure is so intense my eye starts to bulge out. I feel like the inside of my head is on fire! When i am awakened by a CH, it is usually at the Kip3 stage, it has already expanded but is now intensifying its strength. Kip 10's come on faster for me, they dont give me anytime to react with meds before i am struggling with the pain. Kip 10's for me cannot be eliminated, just reduced. Kip 7's can be totally eliminated with imitrex, with no aftereffects! PFDAN, Patrick

I can feel sweat running down my face. it tickles me and is annoying. I can press against a nerve around my ear and it will alleviate the pain for a few seconds, but the pressure is building and seems worse after i let go. My neck muscle tightens and i am constantly massaging it. I run my hands thru my hair with the intent of pushing my hand into my temple area. I think this is a reflexive action, kinda incognito. Trying to hide my discomfort from others and also trying to ease the pain a bit. I am pushing my bulging eye back into place, though i dont do this much because it does not help at all! Have you ever went and looked into a mirror 2 minutes after the beast has left? I mean, when he leaves, he just goes *POOF* and is gone! I look like total HELL, my eye is Bulging RED, My hair looks like Einstein, my face sags on the side of the CH and i generally look like ive been run over and left for dead! PFDAN, Patrick

I get this slight pain in my eye and then I get the ice pack and meds early, hoping to avoid the hit. But it never stops there, it just grows more intense and more intense until I can't stand it anymore. I ALSO love the feeling when its over. And I look like night of the living dead, my hair looks like Medusa and my face looks like someone tried to take one half of it off.

| That's the best description for the way *I* feel it, but others tell me they can see it long before I feel it. My eye starts to get really red, and my mood and demeanor change drastically, but I usually don't realize it unless someone says something about it, and many have learned to just tell me . I like that because then the instant 'pain-on' game doesn't take me by total surprise. -Shawn

Mine start with a "familiar" tightening of the muscles in neck on affected side - I start digging my fingers into it while the affected nostril starts clogging up and I start holding one nostril in while blowing out the stuffed one and then it just goes haywire into my teeth (feel like I wanna pullemout) and eye (I always said it's like someone is sticking a knitting needle into my eyeball), usually while all this is ramping within minutes I am going into "habitual ritual" mode and trying not to wig out. My husband sees me digging at my neck and blowing out my nostril and doing this thing with my mouth (my teeth on affected side HURT) and he knows trouble is here. Hard to explain in words but if you were watching over and over you'd know what I mean...

Mine begins with the feeling of a red hot ice-pick stuck up my nose into my left eye. I immediately rush for my remedies (cafergot, oxygen & cold compress) and away from any witnesses to my ritual. Just depending, my clothes may go to flying off due to the sweat and I immediately get in front of a fan and begin the rocking. Within 2 to 3 minutes the pain can go from 1 to 10, with me sucking on oxygen and forcefully pressing a cold wet cloth onto my left eye, forehead and temple (I quit wearing eye make-up years ago - look funny with it only on one eye). If all of this doesn't work the cold compress against my skin begins to hurt, my nose stuffs and I begin the paceing and head banging into the door frame. I try to pull my hair out to keep my scalp from hurting so and if this continues it radiates into my jaw, around my ear and down my neck. Then, poof it's gone just as fast as it came and I look like something that the cat drug in, am totally exhausted and just as cold as I was hot just a few minutes ago. Good luck to us all, and don't it feel good when it quits hurting?

When I feel the beast coming on, there are only two words that come to mind. OH FUCK!!!! I am damned no matter what; just a puppet for the unmerciful beast. Again I ask, where is a just, righteous, merciful God? I couldn't even stand to watch someone else in pain if I knew I could stop or help it. That's all I can say. My faith seems to be lost into the infinite. Carl D
