Hi My name is Kelly and my husbands name is Thomas, we have been in and out of the ER for at least two solid weeks now trying to figure out what this pain in the right side of his head is and why we cant make it go away. The doc's have perscribed him pain killers, antibiotics and a few other drugs that are of no help. We are new to all of this and dont exactly know what steps to take next, or where to go becuase he is now out of work due to the constant pain and he has no insurance. I have cried so much lately becuase I cannot help him with this I cant make it go away and I cant make him feel any better. I have read the little self help steps on this web page and now joined the site itself. Please PLEASE if anyone has any old time home remedys or ANYTHING we can try, I am all ears and already greatfull to the point that this site is here. I was so lost with the doctor told us what the diagnosis was becuase I had never heard of such a thing. I have read everything I can get my hands on so far, but I wanted to also touch base with ppl that KNOW what he is going thru and see if I can get some ideas to help Thomas. I feel useless as the wife, or mom, I always believed I could make just about anythiing better. Now I know I need help. HELP  ??? Embarassed

hey kelly...slow down a step or two, take a breath, and the whole lot of us will be givin' you good counsel... sounds like ole Thomas has (at least some of) the symptoms of CH. Give us some more info: when do the headaches hit? Where in his head? How often? etc. etc.
Has he taken the CH quiz?.... We're not doctors here, but ARE informed...

All the help...and SUPPORT ya could want is just a few clicks away... Read Read Read.... and know that the Fambly will help as much as we can....

Good luck and push that Oxygen link at the left.... it WORKS fer a lot of us....

Hi Kelly, I am sorry Thomas is getting hit so hard right now. If he does have CH (you didnt actualy say so), there are lots of meds you can try, and Im sure others will be able to advise you much better then I could on that.
As far as non med help goes here are a few suggestions listed in my order of preference.
1) Drink lots of water. I mean like 5 litres a day. When he feals a attack starting he should start drinking and consume (in my opinion) 1 litre within 10 min.
2) A face cloth soaked in HOT water, put over the affected side, or rubbed, whatever seems to help best.
3) Ice! A bag of frozen peas or somthing like that on the side that hurts or on the back of the neck.
4) VIGOROUS excercise. Run or walk VERY fast around the block for a half an hour or more.

These suggestions are not garenteed to help, but they are free and he can start right away. I would suggest he get Imetrex ASAP if you can afford it though.

Wishing Thomas all the best and sending Pain Free Vibes down the net !!!

Along with the others. Sometimes a cup or two of coffee seems to work for me. YMMV
Might be worth a try.

Hi Kelly,

sorry to hear Tom is getting hit. When you went into the ER during an attack have you asked for oxygen? They should give him that to kill the attack. It is not too expensive to buy either, neither is verapamil. Do some research on the site on this. He might get sample imitrex injections or sprays? Lots and Lots of Water is a good start too.

wish you all the best and quick relief for Tom.
