Turns out it's a pituitary tumor

I went to the doctor August 5th and they told me--also told me that it's benign, thank God. I go back on the 21st to talk more to the surgeon who will be handling this for me. Thanks to all of you who welcomed me and sent me encouraging words and hope--I hope that you all will find some comfort or some ease of the pain you suffer, too. My headaches were caused bythe tumor pressing against m optic nerve. They were hellacious the end of May, but had pretty much eased up around the end of June. It is such a relief to know what it is!

Glad for you that you now know what the problem is. This is why it is so necessary for headache sufferers to get that MRI and whatever other diagnostic tests are called for. Prayers and good wishes to you and please say "hi" when you get back.

Hey MellowMe. I'm glad you got the answers you needed. Atleast you can do something about it.. right? Hopefully, you can get the surgery or whatever is required, and be done with the pain for good! Wishing that for you. Stop back and tell us how it goes! Peace Tina

Mellow, Great news, I think clusterheadaches is the only thing where you hope the doctors find cancer rather than nothing. I know I was disappointed when my tests came out clean. I am sending out prayers that you upcoming treatments lead to a cure for your pain. Opus/Paul

Wow! This is cool.   This board has been here for 4 years advising everyone to get an CT scan and MRI. For four years nothing has ever been found in a clusterhead's head. Nadda, zip, zilch, zero, nothing but empty between the cluster ears. Finally, something was found. Sorry MellowMe it had to be a tumor. Please let us know how things turn out for you.

Mellow I am glad you found out, but please make sure you know ALL you can before the surgery, especially if the pitutiary will have to be taken out. If so, you will have to take hormones from then on. I will say nothing more not wanting to dissuade you, but from the standpoint of of a family member having had the same thing, make certain you know everything about the surgery. So be well and I hope the headaches stop and the surgery goes well. Stuey

I agree with BobG here - it IS very cool that advice given here led someone to dig for a proper diagnosis. I'm sorry that it turned out to be a scary one though!! THIS, people, is the reason we push newcomers to confirm and re-confirm diagnoses. Clusters is becoming a 'catch-all' diagnosis for otherwise unidentifiable head pain. That's not right. Yes, it raises awareness, but in this case the wrong diagnosis could have met with terrible consequences.

Only in clusterville would anyone be HAPPY that a tumor was found. These headaches really suck.

My Dad also had a tumor on his pituatary gland many years ago so I thought I had the same thing when I started with CH. I wish you well. Please let us know how things go. My thoughts are with you. Suzy

Mellow--good luck and Don is right. This is the only place you can be happy for a tumor. So...what does the pituitary do anyway? TomM
