Anybody using Depakote?

I just got a subscription to Depakote... Any opinions? I haven't read anything positive about it yet. My first hunch is to cancel it before I get the bill.

I've only tried it long enough to know that my stomach hates me for it... .. so I don't have any answers as to how effective it is... Hope you have some luck with it... -Big Dan

I am on the extended release Depakote (500 mg) and I'm not sure that it has helped me much. It has caused me to gain 15 lbs, which is not good when you're a 5'2 female. I have been on the regular Depakote before and it game me tremors and made my heart race. The extended release is better, but like I said, I don't know if it's helping me much. I'm still getting CHs.

I used it in combination with Verapamil, Frova, Trex spray and o2. I did not experience any stomach grief but I did pick up some weight. The question I keep wanting an answer to is, besides o2 and trex, does any of the other stuff I've taken work at all? I mean, I still got hammered this past cycle. Did it do any good?... I don't even know. I do know that I used more meds this time around and it also happend to be my longest cycle. Good luck. Steve G

I took the stuff for my seizures. It didn't do any more than the other stuff but it didn't seem to bug me much. They do a lot bloodwork for your liver though and it's true: You better start eating watercress and grape skins if you don't wanna gain weight. I was vigilant and gained only 5 pounds. Hope it knocks the shit out of them. Charlie

Worked wonders for me. Made my clusters go away for a year. Made me gain only 5 pounds but I had to watch what I ate every day. Upset my stomach a lot. Weirded me out a lot for the first 3 months - hard to describe, but some don't even have this side effect. Sorry to say it only helped me for a year though. On topamax now. MarkV

I'm on Depakote now at 1000 mgs a day (slow release). I have gained some weight from it, but not sure how much because i've taken it for such a long time. It has never done anything for my Chs, but it keeps my meegraines at bay. It's hard on the liver, so be sure that your Doc does a liver enzymes test for you. Mine does one every 6 months to keep an eye on it. Hope this helps. Mikey,

Did it in combo with Pred. and nexium for the stomach, but I don't remember the dosage. That combo did the trick that cycle, but didn't take it this time because it is suppose to be hard on the liver. I blamed the weight gain on the Pred. (seems to be a side effect of that too). Didn't have any other side effects that I noticed. Good luck with it if ya go that route. The Mikey thats savin' his liver for drinkin'
