The pain management quack I went to a couple of weeks ago, who was SUPPOSED to set up physical therapy for me, never did. Now I can't even get ahold of the guy, and the 'Multi Care Specialist' office said he isn't in the office except for 'some Fridays'. The other number they gave me was bogus and led to nowhere, and to top it all off, he gave me a prescript upon leaving the office without discussing it first (ever felt like a piece of meat on the assembly line they wanna move out REAL FAST?) When I left the office and found out he gave me Neurontin, which I had bad bad experiences with in the past, I was disappointed but I have that built in "FUCKIT!" attitude and decided to give it a try anyway, yet again. Within a few days, I was losing balance, coordination, forgetting everything, and my hands started to tremor so bad I couldn't hardly type or write. I stopped taking that shit again, and the next quack that tries to put me on it again, I will tell him I am not into scat - so don't give me any SHIT!!!!! It is quite humorous to me; the transformation over the years and what CH can do to you. I used to be very meek, intimidated, and somewhat afraid of doctors and nurses. Now, I speak my mind, and even told a neuro to go fuck himself. It's funny what pain does to a person. If you find the Neurontin to be ineffective with the clusters, then consult with your doc about the longterm effects of this stuff. I have constant panic attacks, and strangely find it difficult to drive highways and bridges without panic attacking and freaking out. Never had that until I spent a few months on the Neuro-fucker-upper. I only tried it again this last time out of desperation. Never again my friend, never again. Peace, Carl D

Carl D... My hubby dave goes through his cycles with you all the time. How much Neurontin are you on... How did the doc prescribe it??? My husband has had good luck with it as a matter of fact he pushed off a cycle in Dec by starting it right away. It has been the one prevent that has helped him... He does say that his joints ache. Maybe you started out taking too much I know he started with one or two pills and worked up to 3 per day now he is on 6 per day... and its helping he had shadowy days but only two major hits in two days compared to 4-5 hits last week..........good luck (birthday mate mine is 4-20 too) love to you Ree

Ree, I am glad your husband has had success with Neurontin. I'm not sure of the dose I was on (the bottle is at home), I just know I took it every eight hours. I know it was a lower dose than what they had me on a few years ago, but I am still suffering to after-effects of it. I guess it is just one of those many meds that some have success with, and some don't. I sometimes feel like the black sheep of the black sheeps black sheep, if that makes any sense. Peace, and happy 'after-birthday' Carl D

Hey CarlD, Just read post and had to respond. I took Neurontin last year and i relate so much to your post. Yep. Side effects were just as you said. Especially the lack of coordination and remembering stuff. The only thing is-----it DID seem to stop/slow down attack and that is why i stuck with it. Hey CarlD, all the drugs out there (IMHO) have really weird and messed up side effects (at least with me)......I HATE THEM ALL. But I hate clusters worse. Look and see what dose of Neurontin you are taking and talk to the doc about what yur experiencing. SOmetimes ya gotta play with dosage ..........be patient........and find the right spot.......for you. If it gets unbearable, then ditch it and try sumpin else. Well wishes! Kim *Word of caution* If stopping the neurontin - taper off. And, never drink while taking this med. *

Ok. I took 300 mg 3x a day. Same as you now Den. But I'm smaller....I think ;D Don't kow what CarlD is taking, but dosage on Neurontin can go WAY up to like TONS ;D -- I did not go higher than 900 mg a day and believe me - that was ENUFF! Friggin smackin the car into shit and forgettin if I took my pill ;D and whatnot .............Then again, I haven't had much success with any drugs (Yep, it's true)....Depakote on the LIE.............HOLY , Prednisone...........oh sure. See kim fall on the floor like a heap a briks.....must be me. Anyhow, diatribe over, good luck. Ya just gotta pay attention and keep contact with doc. I happen to believe in Neurontin. Even though Neurontin tried ta kill me ;D I woulda died WITHOUT a headache Well wishes.

Hey Carl and everybody.......ok...here's the scoop as I know it.....correct me if I'm wrong. (be gentle) Anyhow....I talked to my doc quite a while bout the neurontin......in case ya never heard me say it I'll say it again.....I am the SIDE EFFECTS QUEEN ! If it says you grow a friggin tail......I'll swear I am gettin one !! (or horns) Doc said it is a good promisein med with least side effects as opposed to most meds (everyone is different tho....granted that). Oh and first off I am a supporter....but I have gawd aweful nasty spine things goin on...I'll spare ya's the ugly details but it is painful ALL the time and not gonna get any better if not worse. Anyhow...where was I ? I was to start out at one 300 mg pill a nite for a week....then after a week take two a day for two weeks......then take three a day from then on. The trick is with the doseage and how you start it......I screw'd up and started takein two a day a few days early then 3 a day a week early (I read the doseage instructions wrong doc wrote for me). I ended up a bit disoriented....kinda strange and felt alot of pressure in my face that I had a hard time with. (everythign makes me bloat dam it.......) Doc had me stop it a few days then start over again correctly and so far so good. But I tell ya what I fell apart the two days I stopped it with pain cuz it all came back too fast.....strange I know. I've read up on it and it seems to be good stuff......but has to be taken slowly and everyone is different with it. What works for one won't for anouther. Kinda like how topomax has to be started out in a lower dose then even prescibed big time over several weeks buidling up very slowly or people are wacked out bad any other way. That med is not for my problem tho....but similar in how it can be only tolerated slowly with alot of people. Some people are doin up to 4,000 mgs of neurontin for bi-polar and they say it has worked in areas like that all other meds have failed. Sure the hell wouldnt' wanna take THAT much of it tho.....NOT. One side effect I do NOT tolerate is weight gain effect and it has slight chance of it but not like most meds...so hopein that side effect passes me rite on by. OK....this is long winded and probly already lost my audeince..ha-ha-ha...sorry ! Pam the neurontin guinea pig PS: (as if this isn't long enuff already ??) Neurontin has actually helped me sum with panic attacks ect....slowed em down a little.....I still hate highways and I still can't spell any better tho

I am not knocking anything.........but Cootie, a doc will tell ya jest about any nonsense if that is the latest thang they are pushing for narcs of a sort (pharmaceuticals) - that said, i wish youwell with this med. --- all who are trying ---- what I AM gonna say is that like any medication there is MOST DEFINITELY gonna be a kickback. IT's up to you to decide priorities.... Neurontin can be an effective preventative treatment for clusters. It also has some (potential) side effects. Bottom line: If it works. .......Well? Then ya friggin stik with it! Just like Verap, depakote, blahblahblah,,,,,,,,,,,it's up to the individual. You'll know. In time, you will KNOW... Once again, I'm going to tell anyone and everyone -- PAY ATTENTION and make sure talk thing over lots with doc. IT's all relative. PFDAN

Yeah Kim yer definetly rite about all that I know.......I think about that when the doc comes in goin on and on about a new med and how good it is...........have they tried it........seems they should have to take it for a month or so to even be able to explain the 'real' side effects or good points. I'm on it for back stuff.....it works for bad painful spasms......but I don't think it has really been around long enuff to prove what else it really does. So I am bein cautious and why I called the doc and went back in last week. I think all meds have side effects......hell I'd have bad effects from a sugar pill ! Thanks for the good words Kim.....! Pam that wants ta keep mobile Ree.....you said achey joints ??? Oh great......... Guess the most important factor with all this I fergot ta mention is that I haven't had a....ummm.....meegraine since I started on it. OMG....I am so sorry I said that word again....hope no one gets pissed at me !!!

Neurontin is also used as a long term anti-anxiety drug. I am on 1800 mg/day. I don't have any side effects. It is harmless for me. And my breasts are fine! -HypnoticFreddy

Thanks Freddy.........I jus don't want ta get big everything from it and look like a sumu-wrestler.   Interestin fact about the med is how they say it has been working for people with depression and bipolar ect where no other med has worked for them normally used. Plus aniti-siezure uses it is for. Used for meegraine too esp ones caused from arthritis and spasms from disk disease. But as usual the same thing doesn't work as well for everyone. Did it cause you any weight gain....please tell me NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! Pam that is searchin out more side effects

Cootie, I hope the Neurontin works great for you with no bad side affects.just like any med how it effects you is different in everybody .Hopefully your doc Knows how to carefully work up to the right dosage .I was very exited when my new to me doc suggested neurontin for my severe muscle spasms.have had them for many years starting in my teens.I followed his directions to the letter I started feeling like I was drunk slurred speech and all.called Billy at work and thankfully he relized it was side effects told me to sit it out and then call doc.The doc relized he started me out at to high a dosage and had me lower dosage alot.Shortly after that I was told back surgery was nessasary and surgeon said I could stop neurontin til then and go back to soma as needed.I had my surgery june 17th I'm hoping muscle spasms will go away or stay managable with soma.Neurontin seems to be prescribed for alot of things lately I hope it works for eveyone who needs it. pfdan to all Minnie

Did 300mg 3 x a day. Back in '99 I was on the same doseage, and after 2 months of the nasty nasty side effects, some of which stayed with me permanently, like the panic attacks were awful. I told the Doc that I'm not a fricken scientist but can figure out that if I am having this negatory barrage of side effects, then if it would do any good it would have happened by now. This time for the 2 weeks I took it the side effects seemed worse than the first time. And it did no good for the CH's. I tried a new form of Triptan called "Relpax" and it worked a couple of times out of maybe ten or eleven tries. It did work for me this morning on an attack, but had little success with it. I guess it might be how you catch the attack; maybe a certain point of it to be effective. Everybody is different with different meds, that is very true. Imitrex did nothing for me but helps alot of people. Surprisingly, Zomig used to be a 50/50 percentage of aborts, but soon became uneffective. I said it before; it is almost like the beast in me learns the new tricks and mutates and deforms in order to be accurate with the next brutal blow. If it works for some, then the side effects are worth it I gbuess. Kind of like a pain med I take for shadows, and that constant "Blow to the back of the head with a baseball bat" pain they still haven't figured out the cause of yet, it helps dull the pain, but the side effects are nasty like sweating profusely, itching, constipation, and sometimes vomiting. Makes you weigh which is worse, the pain or the side effects. I have no tolerance for pain. There's nothing like a level 10 cluster attack in the middle of the morning to piss on your daY. Everybody used to give me grief when I'd say "a 10+ attack", but if you have ever seen "Spinal Tap" and get the meaning, some of the attacks I get are best described in the legendary words of Nigel Tufnel, "But, but these go to eleven." Wishing pf nights and days to all, and slay the wicked beast. C. Franklin Daniels
