This couldn’t have gone any better (considering I broke my own rules of restaurant etiquette). As Dr. Phil and his lovely wife, were leaving the restaurant with their guests, I accosted them with the subject of Cluster Headaches (Dr. Phil knows me, his wife didn’t). Get this, as I asked Dr. Phil if he was familiar with Cluster Headaches, he said: (as best as I can remember) “When I was in practice, my specialty was the brain and neurological pathways. I treated many Cluster Headache sufferers.” I told him that I was a Clusterhead and gave him our web site URL so he could see how we have to fight on every level for recognition. Dr. Phil said “Perhaps we should do a show on Cluster Headaches, they are more common than most people know”. Believe me, the man you see on TV, is the man you see in person. You will not find a more gracious celebrity in this town (yes, Dr. Phil, you are a celebrity—get over it! You caused more of a stir in the restaurant tonight, than Janet Jackson who came in later). I beg, on bended knees, for the family to rally around this opportunity. Perhaps we could all, send a one paragraph synopsis of our own personal CH hell; to Dr. Phil’s email site. Registration required. http://www.drphil.com/email/email_phil_show.jhtml We can at least keep bumping this up to the top, with our stories here. David J.

Do you think it would be useful to send him the write up from the convention Sommelier? We have alot of stuff about to get going once things get sorted out, just tell us what you think the best approach to him would be to get him the info. I can also send him the Doc and Lori's contact info and they can tell him from a clinical perspective what they witnessed with us at the convention. Cat Once again, thank you so much David! YOu done great!

Cat and David, That's sounds great Cat.. I think if he sees that we are obviously very serious about this, he might actually think about doing a show on clusters. WOw that would be great. David, I'm in the process of sending him a message right now. D

Okay, I've sent off an email to the good Dr. Bigal and Lori to see if they can help us out on this one. Lets hope they are receptive to taking on the medical side of this for a show and see if we can't make this happen! Cat

Good job David. I'm sending him an e-mail right now. Even if he did a show on different types of rare afflictions that would be a "good thing" There are several of us here in California who would love the opportunity to be on his show. 9-er-fan and I could represent the other side of the coin since only men get these. I could be in L,A. in 8 hours.........lol Linda

I e-mailed him my old "pain is all" post as soon as I opened David's post. http://www.clusterheadaches.com/wwwboard/messages/37579.html I support and encourage everyone to at least click on that e-mail link and fire off "something" Cluster related to this Phil guy. David may have primed a pump that could bring life saving info to some Clusterhead who hasn't found us. Ya never know. Quote:Dr Phil is a self centered, egotistical son of a bitch |

I for one appreciate all of David's efforts! I think it's in poor taste for us to bash someone that he has invited here to try to help further our cause. (I'm sure I'll get blasted for sayin that ). I'm sure David is the only person on this site who has met Dr. Phil and can attest to what kind of person he is (at least at some level). Why is Dr. Phil a "son of a bitch"? Because he was catapulted into stardom by Oprah Winfrey? I'm not a fan of Oprah's but I do enjoy Dr. Phil's show. He really lays it on the line with the people he is trying to help. He's a straight shooter, a family man, and he doesn't take any BS from anyone. He doesn't come across as egotistical to me at all. I can be in L.A. in 4 hours (3.45 if I REALLY speed)  . David, I'm so glad that you posted with this update. I was getting ready to start a thread this weekend entitled "has anyone heard from Sommelier?". Thank you for continually going to bat with the celebs. Can you post the name of the restaurant that you work at just so I can use it as a point of reference in my email to Dr. Phil (you know, like "I writing because.....heard about your website from David, the Sommelier at so & so website....blah blah blah" Ok, bring it on! Here's the one I sent: Dear Dr. Phil, I have a 4 week old son, and am a cluster headache sufferer. I wanted to write you, to see if you could help my fellow sufferers, and myself, of this disease. I'm not sure where to begin, but let's just say it is a daily struggle just to stay sane and not give up the gift I have been given. Cluster Headaches have taken over my life, and that of the people who love me. For 4-6 weeks every other year, I, and my family, become a slave to a condition that is relentless and unforgiving. I write you with tears in my eyes, at how this condition has taken away precious time from not only my newborn son, but my 8yr old daughter and my husband as well. In addition, there is the frustration of improper medication, not enough of the right medication, unknowledgable physicians, and tight-wad insurance companies that plague myself, and others like me, everyday. Please check out these website addresses: http://www.clusterheadaches.org and http://www.clusterheadaches.com I am asking you to please help us get the word out about our disease, so we can get some proper research started and correct treatment given. Thank You, Melissa K. Filtz Vice President of O.U.C.H. (Organization for Understanding Cluster Headaches)

In this town, never assume that the person and the marketing are the same thing. Dr. Phil is inherently prone to rub some people the wrong way. I think that he would be disappointed if he didn’t get under someone’s skin. If he does check in on this thread, he will see that we kind of work in the same way that he does, we make each other confront and question our own realities. We value honesty, an honest opinion is an honest opinion, there is no right or wrong. We have before us, a Doctor who really knows about and has treated Clusters, and happens to have a national TV show. It doesn’t get much better than this. The Cluster Booklet idea was for this very thing, handing someone with clout, our human drama, in our own words. And if we had a video tape………… Would any one be willing to videotape a Cluster Attack (I won’t be in cycle for another 15 months, and I’m not a headbanger)? With that tape, we would be a shoe-in for a spot on any show. We could digitally hide your face if you wanted. If the general public saw the pain that we go through (I’ve never seen a Cluster Attack), they will be appalled that we are being denied available relief. Then we will get change. We will embarrass them into change. Cat: Great ideas. Any legwork that you can supply to the show, should be appreciated. I don’t know how you should send it, but the show’s email registration system, weeds out all but the serious emails, so they will surely receive it that way. Mr. Happy, 9erfan and all the Clusterheads in the world, I’m matriculating at Crustacean in Beverly Hills, come and see me. Now RJ, since I am a professional Sommelier, and knowing your proclivity to Boones Farm, if you dew drop inn, I will turn you on to the most awesome wine you have ever had. White Zinfandel. I don’t charge by the hour. I actually got to cover several points with Dr. Phil in the short time we talked. I mentioned that we are misdiagnosed, prescribed the wrong meds, denied insurance benefits, and sometimes commit suicide. He was well aware of that situation. As he shook my hand to leave he said “I’m sorry for your suffering”. I was so touched, but I managed to come up with a classic Clusterhead response “I am one of the lucky ones, I only get them for 10 weeks every two years, some of my friends are chronic.” Both the Dr. and his wife visibly flinched. Way to go everybody!! Keep the emails flowing. http://www.drphil.com/email/email_phil_show.jhtml David J.
