I think I can confidently say that Mike and I are the first people EVER to receive vegetables in the mail from a fellow cluster peep.  Yes, you read that right. Vegetables.  A lovely note enclosed, but that's what the package contained.  A can of peas.  Mushy peas - an English delicacy. To be served with just a dash of vinegar.

Thanks for the mushy peas, Jayne Salters.  They actually were delicious (even though they looked a little scary when I first opened the can!)  Mike was in Heaven to be able to taste them again.   You nut!  LMAO   ;D

I almost fell out of my chair the first time I was in an English pub and my co-worker ordered mushy peas.  I said "You actually *order* them that way?  In America, if I ordered peas and they were mushy I'd send em back!".

They're actually quite good.

*SLURP*!!!!!
there is nothing like walking on the beach in England with a tray of chips and mushy peas and scraps on top with salt and vinager, especially after a night out on the town. Ah these things I do miss about my homeland.

Mom used to buy some kind of smashed peas. Dad and I liked more substantial ones. Like pea soup. though. Used to have pea soup in every New York State diner. Some kind of NYS "delicacy" thing years ago.

All you need is a flat iron to make mushy peas.  Shocked

Bonnie..here's my explanation of "scraps"

When they fry the fish and chips in the large fryers in England....some of the batter that is on the fish comes away from the fish and floats in the hot fat. Then the "fish and chip man" gets a scoop and scoops up the "scraps" with a spoon that has small holes in it so the excess fat drips away. Then you have some nice crunchy scraps to sprinkle over your chips and mushy peas...slurp.......
