passed out from a  full trex shot?  ???  Or gotten kinda "loopy" from a third of a shot?? Dave got hit last night and I gave him a third (it did nothing  Angry) then gave him the rest and he passed out cold!! This is not the first time either. He gets "loopey" when I give him a third too. Just had to ask.

I don't know if anyone ever passed out from a shot before, but I sure as anything would call my doc before I took another one.  Passing out is usually a serious thing.

Yikes, Leesa, that is scary.  I sure wouldn't let him at that imitrex again until you tell the doc what is happening when he's taking only a third of a dose!    I've never heard of anyone blacking out from imitrex (even a full dose) ...higher verapamil doses yes, but trex has the opposite effect, doesn't it?  i.e. verapamil lowers blood pressure.

Hugs to you girl, you're a rock.  Hang in there.  Please call Dave's doc and tell him/her what happened?

Something sounds wrong there.  The only side effect I've ever felt from Imitrex was that the top of my skull feels bruised.  like somebody whacked me with a two by four from on top

Thanks yall for the advise. Im going to call the pharmacy at the VA where he gets the injections. He's got a Neuro app. on the 23rd of this month at the VA and Im going to make damn sure Im there and can talk to the doc also. (Dave wont say anything to the docs about him passin out if I dont say it for him, go figure  Roll Eyes) He's going to kill me when he sees this but oh well! *stomping foot with hands on hips* He's taking 240 mg of Verap X 2 a day (in the morning and in the evening)
Margi, he gets kinda "loopey" when he gets a thrid on an injection. He'll talk to me,  I make him talk to me when he gets a third of an injection, but he's kinda out of it for the lack of a better word, like he's on downers or something.
Thanks again yall  Grin

Imitrex Side Effects

I have felt maybe a little dizzy....bit nothing drastic....only blessed relief. Get to a Dr. or Pharmacist....could it be a possible interaction with something else?

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Back again with some news............I tryed to get a hold of the VA pharmacy and of course I got no where. What did I really expect other then what I got was "hurry up and wait"  Angry  Called CVS and got a human being!!  Shocked*fallin on floor* He advised me that "yes he has heard of folks passin out from a full injection and and gettin "loopey" from a third." I advised him about the Verap and how much and he told me "Verap is used for blood pressure to reduce it, that it makes it so the heart doesnt have to work so hard" On that I had no clue!  He also told me to get a hold of Dave's doc and tell him about whats up, which Im going to do this month. Trex is the only way Dave can deal with the beast when he comes around and he won't give that up. So now I'm atta stand still, and crossin everything I can in hopes that the beast does'nt show his ugly face untill after we get Dave to the Neuro this month. Dave is'nt taking anything other then the Verap 2 x a day (240mg = 480mg) and the trex when the beast shows up. Thanks again yall and I'll keep yall posted as to what and when I find out any more! Yall are the BEST!!

Leesa - Sorry I missed this thread until just now. I have very bizarre reactions to all of the triptans I have tried. My neuro knows and while he doesn't want me using them a lot, he also knows that they are the only drugs that help, and so he still prescribed them and I still take them.

Imitrex - makes me feel like I am being strangled, I get flushed, my ears ring, I get tunnel vision for a few seconds, I feel really drugged up, I puke, and I have a weak hold on conciousness. I only take this after nothing else has worked or for the ch I know are gonna be 10's.

Zomig - Makes me feel like I shot up with herion (I am guessing). My speech is slurred, I can't walk a straight line to save my life, super sleepy, etc.

Maxalt - I lose all feeling in my head, face, mouth. Everything goes numb and tingly. I again feel like I could pass out and had to fight it many times. I don't take this one anymore.

Just let Dave know he isn't a freak. They affect me a lot too. I would still strongly recommend telling your dr when you go. Let me know what the dr says.

Man, Leesa - I''m not sure it's wise to wait until the end of the month!  Can you not push your way in earlier to see the doc - because of the fainting if nothing else?  I'd be sending scathing emails, calling and telling them that you're worried something drastic is going to happen unless you get a med change TODAY, laying down in front of their office door in the morning, to get Dave in there!!  Sure sounds to me like he's having a bad reaction to imitrex OR the combo of the 'trex and the verapamil.  As I said above, I HAVE heard of folks passing out from Verapamil because it takes their b/p down.  480 is NOT a huge dose, though, but maybe when he adds the triptan in there it's causing some kind of reaction?
Can you not get him on Oxygen as an abortive instead?  Like TODAY?  Come on girl - we supporters have sharp teeth when we need them.  Time to fight for your hubby, honey!!
moxie_miss@hotmail.com - write me if you need help with this ok?  I got Mike in to a new neuro within hours by showing my...uh...less than softer side to that receptionist!
Hugs

Oh Gosh Leesa,
I am sending huge healing vibes Dave's way...listen to Margi Leesa and get "nasty" on the phone. That sure doesn't sound right about him passing out. I have felt a little strange sometimes   but nothing like that.

Leesa - I have gotten extremely sleepy after a shot and usually (if the situation allows it) will sleep for about 15 mins.  But nothing like passing out cold - this is more of a choice.

I agree with Margi - you need to get Dave into the doc earlier then towards the end of the month.

Sorry that you both are going through this, but you sound like a wonderful supporter and Dave is extremely lucky to have you.  Stay strong girl !!!
