More on OXYGEN.....yawn

Just found this on the OUCH-UK site and I really like the idea. Comments?

Here's a link to the page:

OXYGEN THERAPY - HIGH-FLOW REGULATORS

See also the notes on Oxygen Regs (CD) on the menu

Many ch sufferers find oxygen inhalation a considerable help, either in aborting an attack on its own, or in reducing the pain of the attack until other slower-acting abortives can kick in.

To be effective the patient needs to inhale pure oxygen. This means a flow rate of 8-10 litres/min. (min) is needed. Unfortunately, though the NHS can, and quite often will, prescribe O2, it is not able/willing to provide the regulators to make the therapy effective. Those which are used in most medical cases (eg. respiratory distress, and many terminal conditions) generally have a maximum of 4 litres/min. When GPs prescribe O2 they often do so not realising the differing needs of the cluster sufferer.

In most cases, the O2 can be prescribed therefore (although, as usual, GPs knowledge of and sympathy with the treatment does vary considerably), but is only any use if the patient stumps up the £130 or so to buy themselves the reg. Most are unwilling, understandably, to do this without some guarantee that it will work for them.

We therefore contacted BOC to see if they could help. We are EXTREMELY grateful that they have provided us with TEN of these items, which should make a considerable impact on many sufferers lives.

The regs. remain the property of OUCH(UK)/UKCH, and are loaned to the individuals concerned. There is a deposit (refundable) of £30 (£15 for members of OUCH (UK)) and a handling charge of around £5 for postage. The loan is initially for three months, which should be sufficient for most episodic sufferers, and give chronics an idea of whether it will work.

If you are interested in this scheme, or for more details of this therapy please contact us by e-mail and we should be able to help. If you do not have e-mail access, use the contact pages here and at OUCH (UK).

Maybe y'all can discuss this at ClusterCon2003.... put a lien on the yacht for the initial investment or contact one of the big Oxygen/Medical Suppliers (like Lincare or Norco) for Loaner regulators....

Just another idea.....

You will never get Bob P or Don to agree to a lien on the OUCH yacht.

By the way, anyone seen it lately?
