Interesting for Smokers

I found this pretty interesting.  Don't get me wrong.   I smoke and hate when people tell me to quit.  I'm thinking of quitting sometime in the 'next while'.

grant ???

Your Body Will Forgive You.

One of the exciting aspects of quitting smoking is that, in time, you can actually reduce your risk of acquiring smoking-related disease to that of a non-smoker.

Don't ever think that its too late to quit smoking.  Remeber your body will forgive you...   no matter how long you've been at it.

30 minutes after you quit: blood pressure, heart-rate and temperature of hands and feet become normal.

8 hours after you quit: carbon monoxide and oxygen levels in your blood return to normal.

24 hours after you quit: risks for heart-attack and stroke decrease significantly.

48 hours after you quit: nerve endings in your nose and mouth begin to regrow.

72 hours after you quit: bronchial tubes relax and breathing is easier.

1 week after you quit: circulation, breathing and lung function improves.

1 month after you quit: coughing, sinus congestion and shortness of breath decrease.

2 years after you quit: risk of heart attack drops to that of a person that has never smoked.

5 years after you quit: risk of stroke drops to normal; risk of lung-cancer decreases by half.

10 years after you quit: risk of most types of cancer drop to normal.

15 years after you quit: your risk of dying is similar to a person who has never smoked.

What I've always found humorous about that list is the fact that they don't list the withdrawl symptoms that accompany quitting, so you don't really notice any of the benefits listed, until you've completed withdrawl, 2 to 4 weeks later.  The reminds me... Time for my cig break...

I got my Wellbutrin Sr 150 MG!

I was told to take one one time a day for four days then 2 a day for 14 days then stop smoking cold turkey by my doctor. I plan to start my pills the week before the convention. Then on day 18 I will throw these damn things down. The reason I picked after the convention is I will room with two that smoke like me. LOL!

I figure if I can fight all I have fought and won, then I will be able to fight this habbit and win!!!

I am tired of smelling like smoke and coughing my head off and not breathing good.

Hey E, I was on Wellbutrin, but for depression.  Miracle drug for me for depression.
But for the smoking.  I smoked while I was on it, but DID notice that I didn't crave the cigs!  Didn't smoke half as much.

(guess I should have quit then, but neither the doc or myself thought it was a good idea to try to quit smoking while I was trying to get rid of terrible depression)

You should do well with that plan I bet!

Good luck to you!

There is nothing good about smoking

Great rationalizations. Number 622, I've added to the list.   Roll Eyes

Dunno E. It's tough. Don't rely on pills. They won't make it much easier.  After a week, or two, you'll know if you can do it. After a couple months, it will no longer be the center of your universe. It gets much easier after that. If you're serious......no booze for several months. That's what did it for me.

Nice list.

Interestingly Charlie and Elaine, my doc told me no alcohol with the Wellbutrin...it can really mess you up bad.  Besides making you sick, it supposedly can mess up your mind too.....

I don't know, he might have been bullshitting me...he never would be really specific about what it did....

I don't drink but once in a blue moon so there is no problem there. Oh I am not going to be foolish enough to think this pill will work without will power and lots of faith. And  whole lot of hard candie LOL! I am gaining weight so fast now I will blow up like a blimp when I stop smoking.

I got a lot of stuff to do and smoking will sure get in the way of those things so I will be done with smoking by the end of July!

Jackie will hold me to it Wink!

I like the 15 years after you quit part.

I'm going to wait until I'm a hundred years old and then quit smoking. That way at age 115 my chances of dying will be the same as a 65 year old that never smoked.

That's not bad,

butt

90 minutes after you quit: you get a wake-up call from a cluster attack, and have to light another one.

And for gosh sakes, don't screw up and take a double dose like I did. It will make you completely paranoid. I sat in a chair for six hours totally messed up and freaking out at the slightest noise or movement. Should not have been allowed to drive home by myself either. Bad stuff when doubled, but it did help me quit smoking.
