O2 - Wow! and Doh!

I just tried O2 for the first time tonight.  Wow!  It really stops the headache quickly and with no side effects!  But...Doh!  It's baaaa-aaack.

I'm in a disorganized post-cluster (I hope!) period where I don't expect to get regular CH's, but occasionally get mild ones.  I got a mini CH (Kip 6) at 12:15am, took O2 for 10 minutes, at 10 liters/min, then went back to bed, pain free.  I then woke up at 2:30am with another Kip 6.  I took O2 for 12 minutes and was pain free.  I have stayed up since then, but the headache is back at a low (Kip 5) level for the last 2 hours.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this rebounding normal for O2?  I rarely get more than 1 CH a night.  I can't take my Zomig right now because I'm trying to get pregnant.  Do I need to stay up longer after I take O2 or take the O2 for a longer period of time?  The headaches stopped after 5 minutes of O2, so I thought 10 minutes would be enough.

P.S. Thanks to Jonny et al. for their Oxygen site!

Laurie...

Go to sleep!  Smiley   If the O2 aborts it... try and get some rest.  The O2 works when the CH subsides.  You seem to be exhibiting a high frequency of Clusters right now!  Hang in there, girl...... quit the O2 when the cluster is gone.... you are wasting anything you use when it aborts.... thinking of you!

Hi Laurie,

Because you are pregnant you might want to take a look at my post/thread on the 'medications' mb about tryptophan. If you consider getting any, definitely check with your doctor before making a final decision.

I still have about 10 days left on the O2 tank rental and I am holding onto it untill the last minute, just in case. It has been a hugh help. Even when I needed it 4 and 5 times a night I could still wake up much better than going through a night of one kip10.

Hope you keep improving and I am sending prayers, wishes and healing energy for PFDAN,

Glad the O2 seems to be working, even if you are getting more CH than usual.  It could just be a bad spot in your cycle Sad  Do what the others said and get some rest.

Good luck on getting pregnant.  Just know (I'm sorry to say) that you're screwed if you are in cycle while pregnant, you can't take shit.  I'm not sure about the oxygen these days.  The only cycle I ever had while pregnant was 10 years ago and they told me no oxygen (not that it helped me much anyway).  Also, don't let anyone scare you about childbirth - it is a cake walk compared to a CH!!  I had a baby 5 months ago and gave birth with no meds.  My mom asked if it hurt as much as a cluster - NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!  Yea, it hurt, but please!  I'd give birth everyday for the next 4 weeks rather than have one more CH if given the choice!!

Hi Laurie,
Glad the O2 is working for you.
I have noticed that if I get off of it too fast...the headache comes right back.  I usually stay on the mask at LEAST 5 minutes after the pain is gone.
Try to stay on it a little longer and see what happens.
But waking up 2 hours after aborting one sounds pretty normal for clusters at a peak in the cycle.
Good luck,
Mast

Hi Laurie,

So glad you have the 02, and that it's working for you.  Just keep using it, and stay on it for 5 to 10 minutes after the pain is gone.  I'm like Mast, if I try to get off of it too fast, the ch comes back.  Just try to sleep between the hits, get all the rest you can.

Wishing you PFDAN,
Tracey

Hey Laurie...we told ya it would work.... but please remember that o2 is an abortive for CH.... which means that it knocks 'em off one-by-one...

I don't think yer getting *rebounds*....you're just getting the next visit by the MOFO.... and I hope the last one ya HAD....is the last one ya ever GET......

Good luck and hang in......Steve(Not4Hire)

Laurie,

Good advice above.

I find if I go off the O2 too soon, it will come back.  As Roxy and Mast said try staying on a bit longer.

IMHO sometimes when the pain is so great we think it is gone when it has only been taken down a few notches.

Keep trying and be PF soon.
