You guys know I moved in to a new home, and all the water problems we been having. Well I finally got Palm Harbor to give me the money for a French drain. Oh my goodness the guy came out today with a backhoe and tore my yard up, he is a little slow, got here at 9am cut off at 1pm said he would be back tomorrow night and then Saturday finish the Job. I am sitting here now wit a big ditch aroundthe front and side of my house. YUCK!!! red clay everywhere.
If you want to see my yard I took pictures just copy past the link into your address bar then click on the links and you can see it!!!Becareful it almost triggered a cluster when I saw them LOL!

Although it is a mess now it should really well as I've heard that French drains are the best to go if you're having drainage problems.  Glad it is finally getting done.  You'll be happy with it when it all done though.

I am praying that the french drain helps you.  It did not help our water problems and we had to rip up carpeting, bust the concrete floor up in spots and rip out drywall so a drain could be put in the interior wall.  New houses do have there downfalls.  I have learned to waterproof first then you don't have to worry about these problems.

Thats not funny Bruce Cry

I been scard to death with all the rain that it could happen like that!

I am a woman and not many people listen expecially men to a woman. I don't expect the french drain to work. Common sence tells me you put a pipe down with hole in it, cover it with gravel then cover it with red clay dirt. When clay drys its hard as a rock, when it rains its muddy but still hard. How is the water going to get to that darn pipe???

Buddy is the one in trouble, he has to get the water that is under the house now out Sunday. They promise to be done with the work by Saturday.

Ree just the house is New...The yard looks like crap, not a darn thing maches in my house, I am still wearing hand me downs. To be honest I like wearing stuff already broke in, and I like my mix matched house Smiley!
I like a house that looks and feels lived in Wink!

Karla and Bruce you two got to be more postive thinking LOL!!

Elaine,

I'm sorry if my attempt at humor struck too close to home and I hope you'll accept my apology. I just took a look at the pictures and that one immediately struck me as looking like a moat. Again, sorry if I offended you and if you like I'll remove the pic.

I too have had water problems with our basement. Although we had drain tile installed when we built, I never bothered to put in a sump pump. Then one weird February day it started to rain and the snow melted and we proceeded to have a river of slush/ice/rain running down the field out back and in between our house & the neighbors. Water seeped into the basement and I spent a full week cleaning things up. Lesson learned. I put in a sump pump and things were good until we got 6 inches of rain in 75 minutes and the same thing happened again (only this time in late spring right after planting and it was muddy water) The torrent was so fast that my 1/2 hp sump was unable to keep up with the inflow and this time I got to spend about 2-3 weeks cleaning up the left-over mud in the basement (with just-finished family room & play room).

So, I hope you don't think my humor was an attempt at callousness. I do pray that you'll have relief ... both from rain and pain.

Take care

Ms. Lainey,

I sure hope this takes care of your drainage problems, but I'm afraid it's only a stop-gap measure. We need to get to the root of the problem, ALL OF US, and

Lady Elaine,

Dealing with clay is the pits.
I hope all turns out well for you.
Don't work too hard on that yard in the heat.
Take lots of breaks & drink a whole lot of water.

At least it looks very pretty there. Real "woodsy".  Smiley

Good Luck,
