Hey Pinky, Yeh sometimes teeth hurt too. I think they call it sympathetic pain. Anyway i'm new to the site also. I am episodic, every yr or two for about 6/8 wks// 4-8 chs per day. Whats your story? Gene

Welcome Pinky. You are among others who know exactly what you're going through. I can't say my teeth have ever hurt from CH but I know others here have said so. The beast isn't particular. Stick around; you'll likely find good ideas in coping with this horror. Here is one I used very successfully: Dr. Wright's Circulatory Technique This is not transcendental meditation, imagery, relaxation, or anything psychic. It's entirely physical and takes a lot of work and concentration. Give this method a good workout. It’s not a miracle, but it’s been helpful to many. When I was diagnosed, my neurologist said to treat this as a vascular problem. I was told to concentrate on “redirecting” blood circulation in order to retard flow to the head. This is done by trying to “send” blood into the arms and hands or other extremities. When properly done, your hands will become warm and redder with increased circulation. I also found it easier to concentrate on one hand. This relieves just slightly, the pressure on the affected vessel, which indirectly causes our pain. We all have this ability but it can be exhausting. I was often able shorten my attacks from about half an hour to no more than a few minutes. Sometimes, when awake, I could entirely abort the attack IF I KEPT AT IT. Often, I would suffer only minor discomfort instead of excruciating pain. Do not stop just because your hands are warm or redder. Keep this up until you are sure it's subsided. If you let up or lose concentration, it’s very hard to restart this process. It may take some time but when this works, the relief is almost immediate. I learned this from the doctor in a few minutes. He simply told me to try to keep blood away from the head. He thought it easiest to concentrate on the arms and hands but any place that works for you is fine. He said to think of it as "filling your hands" with redirected blood. It’s important to keep at it THROUGH the pain. This will be difficult, but it’s the only way this technique will work. Don’t let up until you are sure the attack has ended. This will not always work, but I think it will always have at least some effect on the severity and duration of the attacks. It can be useful between medications or while waiting for some other drug to take effect. All it takes is a little practice. It was fairly easy to learn and what I'm writing here is more than I got from the doctor, as I've drawn from my own experience. When awakened in horrible pain, it’s very hard to focus, but I think it’s always worth a try. This costs nothing but hard work, is harmless, non-invasive, and it gives us a fighting chance. I wish you the best of luck - Charlie Strand

Hi Pinky, Generally over my last 25 years episodic with the beast, my teeth have not been involved. For most of that time I have been wearing a night gaurd because I grind my teeth at night. a few months ago a chronic low grade tooth problem has upgraded causing some trouble before this episode hit; now that tooth is a MAJOR focus when HE comes around. Haven't been able to wear the gaurd for the past month. While there are common features, clusters don't seem to have any norms at all. Glad you found us, welcome aboard, and wishing you PFDAN, Dell

My teeth ache every time. All of them, even the ones without a nerve, where I had root canal! Like phantom pain in an amputated arm, I sometimes think. Painfree days, pinkster

There is a good graphic around here somewhere that provides a good visualization and explanation as to why your teeth may hurt with CH. Archives? Ouch site? Its somewhere. Somebody will find it.

The trigeminal nerve, which is active in a CH attack, has three branches, the opthalmic branch, which is in the area aroung the eye, the maxillary branch, which is in the area of the cheek, and the mandibular branch which is in the area of the jaw and teeth. The OUCH website has a picture (artist rendering) of the trigeminal nerve. Don't make the mistake of doing anything to your teeth, because it will not help with the CH pain. Dramamine might help you sleep at night, by keeping you out of REM sleep. Also one of the long lasting triptans (Amerge) might get you through the night because it remains pharmacologically active long enough to keep the CH at bay for a few hours. PFDANs -Curtis

Welcome Pinky. I regularly get pain in my teeth. I hope you keep reading, researching, and send the Beast on its way. There's a letter to family, friends, co-workers that explains Ch very & you should be able to find a link to it on one of the more recent pages. Remember you are not alone and we do understand! Wishing you PFDAN's, Kate

No tooth pain for me, THANK GOD, although I am sure my right eye would LOVE to share the pain with parts of the rest of my body (sure would be nice if the demon moved around a bit). But, anywho, welcome to the family! Glad you found us, sorry you had to... Bryan
