Can anyone suggest a remedy for a sore throat? I have come down with some kind of cold, and my throat is killing me.

Hot as you can get it water, add a BUNCH of salt. Gargle. It works wonders!!

I would suggest the hot water and salt too!! If that doesn't work try sucking on a non buffered asparin. Disgusting but it works.

Curtis....Do you get TCP in the states...cos if you do, and the salt/water doesn't help, then I'd give that a go, tastes disgusting but does work!! otherwise short of beheading yourself, can't think of anything else.
Hope the sore throat gets better soon....

As soon as I feel something coming on, I take 1000 mg. of vitamin C.........works 99% of the time. I rarely get sick from a virus. I also eat raw onion, which I attribute to lack of colds and sore throats.
The warm salt water is good for healing.

Thanks. Tried the salthingyer, it tastes bad but seems to be helping. How often must I gargle with it?

LOL Jackie, If your hubby's "cure all" is anything like my hubby's "cure all" you are right! LMAO!!
The salt water gargle is good for healing. For instant but very short term relief Chloraseptic spray is good. Numbs it, but each time you swallow takes the numbing agent away.
I also agree with Donna on the vitamin C.
(didn't know raw onion helped! I love it. I also use a lot of garlic which is supposed to help keep you healthy too)

Um somehow I missed this thread so am prolly a lill late....either yer better or alot worse and in the hospital...ha-ha....jus jokein. Anyhow.....you guys are gonna be 'disgusted' at me but this is what WORKS for a horrible sore throat. I swollow a glob of vicks and smash it to the back of my throat with the backa my tonge so that sore area is coated. Yeah.....I hear all the 'blahhh's and gag's out there goin on' but hey....it does work GREAT as far as relief to get thru the nite or a few hours. Coats it and stops more irritation from gettin to it for a few hours and also alows 'sum' healin time this way also. This gross gag-me remedy WORKS ! Of course too much of the vicks will irritate yer stomach in the long run....so will advil and alot of other stuff. OK.....I'll run fer cover on this one and pretend I didn't say a word but it "does" work....got me thru the nite many a time ! Pam the bad remedy girl that hasn't said a thingl........

Did your sore throat become very painful without the preamble of the kind-of-scratchy feeling? If it did, you may have Strep Throat. I've had it many times, ugh.
Besides the salt water gargling, you can alternate taking Tylenol and Advil over the course of the day. This helps with breaking fevers too.
Eating salty foods will make your throat feel better. I go for Fritos.

Oh yea, and just take a teaspoon of honey ... swallow that instead of the vicks ... that also works for a really nasty dry cough. LOL ... my hubby said Cootie is very very bad !!!!!! LOL

I get horrid throats too. I use a three pronged attack all at the same time:
Soluble aspirin dissolved and gargled
Chloraseptic or other numbing spray
Two Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory every four hours
Hope it goes soon, it's miserable

OK....so ya got a rip tearin soar throat and brings tears to yer eyes to swollow.....yer in diar agony.....try yer salt water.....try yer asprin or gargle this or that....wanna get some relief and get away from that horrid pain.....wanna get some healin time in and relief......then do what the Vicksy Chick Coot does....it works I tell you ! I was plauged with horrible soar throats and swollen glands since I was knee high to a grass hopper (yes lill grasshopper....go with the vicks remedy)....it gives ya INSTANT relief and it lasts plus like I said some healing time with thraot coated and protected . Would the coots steer you wrong ? Try it you'll like it Pam coots You'll never know till ya tried it.....it's all up to you now.....ha-ha-ha-ha-ha....vicks good not bad !!
