Warning Signs

Hi All!
I am newly diagnosed (about three months now) and have suffered from excrutiating cluster headaches. I have a strange question for everyone.
I have noticed that prior to a new cluster episode, my left ear turns very red. Usually it is only the outer edge. But this seems to be my "warning" to take my medicine.
Has anyone else experienced warning signs or am I just different? ???

Welcome romain....thats not one I've heard of but then anything is possible with this mutant beast....Wes does get a stiff neck prior to his though...

sometimes i feel a little pain on the back of my neck left side same side of my CH.
sometimes my left eye starts to twich.

Hi Romain. During a CH cycle my eye twitches and during the cycle at various times my left ear (CH side) gets red hot... often that's an indication to me that a CH attack may be soon to follow. Oftentimes the red hot ear coincides with my other symptoms such as the pressure and burning eye.

Hi romain.....Brad's personality changes.....really wierd and hard to explain but it was so drastic this last episode I warned him I felt anouther cycle was comeing on and he needed to CHILL. He was so high strung about work stuff and stressed and wanted to argue about everything which isn't really him. Hate to say it but I was rite on the money this time and his cycle started about 1 week later after a couple years bein PF. Kinda freaky......he also had sinus real bad and kept sayin it was jus a sinus infection or allergies..he was wrong. Good luck to you ! Cycle predictor and NOT proud of it Pam

All my CH's are on the right side. Sometimes the right side of my forehead will turn red & become slightly swollen. I've had ringing in my ears too.
The pain behind my right eye is the first sign of a CH starting.

I get a "cramp" in my left ear and my left eye swells shut. Warning signs before the pain hits.
So you're not THAT usual afterall. We're all weird.

Hi Romain and welcome aboard. I dont really get any signs that the beast is coming. He usually just pounds the door down and runs in but I can always tell when the cycle is coming around because I will have shadows for a couple weeks prior.
I hope you find pf days soon.

This really kinda strange, but I guess that the left ear seems to be an indicator for at least some of us.
I also have another question, I came across a web site about cluster headaches and they had mentioned something about cluster migraines.
A few of my most severe headaches dont follow typical cluster headache pattern and seem more like a migraine.
Does anyone know anything about cluster migraines? Can you have both?

My personality changes about two weeks before a cycle starts. I find myself totally unable to tolerate stupid people. I work at a restaurant, and you would not believe the things customers do and say. Normally I just shrug it off, but during a cycle I really have to restrain myself from saying something snotty or dumping something on them. I also find myself having incredible roadrage. I'm normally pretty laid back, but the other day I was screaming at someone in front of me cause they stopped to let a car out onto the road. I just became aware of this during this cycle but thinking back it all makes sense. I'll know what to watch out for next time.
Before an actual attack I get numbness in my temple area on the surface of the skin. Then little pings of hot pain at the inner corner of my eyebrow, with a popping sensation over my eye. Then all hell breaks loose.
Thank God for Verapamil and Prednisone. Pain free for almost two weeks! The Prednisone makes me really jittery though. els

I also get very short tempered. People are stupid and they sure as hell can't drive, when I am in cycle. I completely agree with you.
I also notice that my right ear gets red and hot and that my right eye and right side of my face start to droop. I know that they are coming.

I didn't realize that I had any warning signs, but now that I read this I realize that I have alot of the same signs as other people. The crankiness and the numbness on the left side of my head, and my eye will start watering. Thanks for asking the question now I will know that the strange things I am feeling are a warnig.
