I read in another post it takes about 10 minutes for the Imitrex spray to kick in.

How many HAs can the spray be used for and what is the insurance comp. limit if any?

Don,
It works in 10 to 15 minutes for me if I catch it in time. Seems to work better with coffee. Does do much for one you wake up with.

My insurance limited me to 6 every 14 days but Glaxo got it raised to 6 every 7 days. I can get 6 sprays for $125  and the doctor will prescribe 2 per day.

Hi Don,

The spray takes about 15-20 minutes to kick in for me.  Only supposed to use the spray once every 24 hours.

Don't know what the ins. limit is, but my neuro will only prescribe 6 per month.  Says he has too many patients that get rebound headaches if they use more than that.

I "save" mine for the times when I'm away from work or home.

Hope this helps,
Joanie

Don, the sprays take up to twenty to thirty minutes to work for me, sometimes just one won't do it and I've had to use more.

My doctor will let me refill every 5 days, but I don't fill that prescription anymore, just the injections.

My new insurance carrier limits me to 12 nasal shots a month! I swear if I ever meet one of these clown when I'm cycling, that dude I chased in the car a few months back will look like a Duck-Duck-Goose game.

So, I stock up on meds. My average time of relief if 10 minutes; sometimes longer and many shorter.
hope this helps.

One nasal shot per HA. I've been know to take 2 shots but you can not split nasal spray like you can the injections if that is where you are going.

Thanks for the replys.

I was wondering if injection users were being restricted because of cost prohibitive packageing. I guess not. We are all  being screwed. Insurance companies are equal opportunity screwers.

Don,

The Trex inj helps me a whole lot more than the nasal spray does, but i still use them.  Just like Tom said, i've been known to use 2 in one attack as well.  The Neuro won't presscribe me anymore than 6 per month, he says due to rebound HAs.  He presscribes me 12 inj per month as well.  Glaxo has convinced my insurance co to allow this much per month, when they only used to allow me 4 inj per month.  The inj only takes about 10 mins for me to feel some relief, but the nasal spray takes about 20-25 mins for me to feel relief, and sometimes if i don't catch it soon enough, it won't give any relief.

Hope this has been a help to ya!  PF to ya Don!

20 to 30 mins.

6 per month

Each dose is good for only one HA.   Can't be cut like the Inj. can.

It takes about 20 minutes or more for the nasal spray to kick in with me. Used to think that was the shit until I used the injection. That'll kill the beast in about 5-10 minutes.
So far I've had no problem with BCBS giving me whatever amount I need.
