I don't know you very well Doug, but I've seen your posts from time to time.
I couldn't possibly know what is troubling you but I do know this - apart from all the things you may have to sift through, all the good things you've found here will always be with you. I hope that whatever you do, even if you're lurking, the love of the people that you've come to know here, their support and comradery, continues to give you what you need, on and off this board.
Sad to see you say you're going, I'm sure there are a lot of clusterheads yet to come that might benefit from someone who's been around a while.
I almost didn't say what I wanted to for stupid reasons - but it didn't supercede the really true ones.
So yet again I open my mouth, maybe I stuck my foot in it. Oh-well, if I did.

If you have been around here for a long time and still need an explanation of DougL's post, it's going to be very difficult to explain............and beyond my capabilities.
This board was created by a group of people with a very different mindset than exists here today. Yes, things change - often for the better - sometimes not.
Support was always an important component (still is!) and very often involved phone calls between sufferers and supporters. This still happens, but not to same degree. How many folks here have each others home phone number? I'm not knocking anyone - it's just not as personal now......
This board is a logical extension of OUCH, separate - but still connected at birth. Does anyone remember seeing "Hmmmmmm" posted every other day as means to maintain focus?
I'm as guilty as anyone, but look at the general apathy at OUCH. What's the status of all the committees? One tenth of one percent of the energy that gets expended here would go a long, long way in furthering OUCH.
OK, for me it just boils down to emotional level - it just doesn't feel right anymore - and THAT's my problem, not the board's problem.

I completely understand where you're coming from and very good points were made in this thread by Elaine, Linda, Marc, Den, etc. etc.
No, the board isn't the same. No, the feeling here is now 'big city' compared to the 'small town' where we all met years ago. Yes, there are some things that go on here that are irritating. But, ya know what? That happened on the old board too (remember Waterdog? Linda B?  ) We survived that.
I think it's come to a point where we now have to....for want of a better expression....pick our battles. I'm learning to do that. Yes, there are some things going on here that REALLY piss me off, but I just go kick a co-worker instead of posting here. (OK, not really - just wanted to see if anyone is paying attention  )
The board has become an amazing thing...shit happens: shit gets resolved. With or without everyone's participation as it was in the past. There are just too many people here now, for everyone to be able to have their say anymore.
Groups, cliques, friendships form. 'Tis the nature of a larger group. Not everyone is EVER going to get along harmoniously all the time. Just ain't gonna happen, honey.
Doug, I got an email yesterday from a supporter who's hitting the wall. She lives right here in Calgary and she was feeling really lost and alone, watching her hubby do the dance every night. She was given my name by Bennie Sue (remember her?  ). THAT email and the ensuing conversations we had really brought it all home for me today. That, and things my twisted sister has been saying to me (even though she thinks I'm not listening to her  ... It made me come back to the board again - I haven't checked in here for a number of days now. I was at about the same point you obviously are.
Doug, us old farts really DO have a responsibility to watch out for the new folks arriving here. Remember what a bad point each of US was at when WE found ch.com? But now that we have it and are a part of the family here, we get cocky and think everyone should be at the same speed we are. Nope.
Yes, we've done our time here. Yes, we've talked about left-handedness, eye colour, sexual preference, beastiality (still paying attention? ), imitrex usage, etc. etc. etc. Ad nauseum, we have. But...so what? Yes, we were pioneers in those days and we were feeling like we'd finally found folks from our home planet. Too cool, huh? What a wonderful history we have.
So, let's share our history Doug. YOU are a very integral part of that history, Mr. Lutz. We all learned how to spell from you. Hey, is Cootie your little sister, mister?
Stick around, kiddo - you never know when a fellow clusterhead will only find solace from talking to YOU, ok?
