b.bop have you seen a neuro? It sounds a little like TN (Trigeminal Neuralgia) to me. Are they like electric shocks that shoot up your face towards your temple? ...............andy

Yeah, seeing a Nuerologist. It doesn't really shoot up to my temple at all, its like a really intense ball of pain in my teeth that makes them incredibly sensitive.

Ya mean somethin like this: The pain is all Posted by Dennis O'C on February 05, 2000 If you don’t get a clear picture of a Cluster Headache from what I am about to say...I’ll understand. Before I had one I would certainly never have believed that pain like this was possible to have...and live through. At the Cluster Headache’s height, my whole being, body, mind, and soul are filled with a seemingly endless, helpless, desperate, cry of “NOOOO” as if at once I had lost my child, my wife, and all my loved ones because of some stupid accident that I had caused. This desperate moment may last over an hour for me. Not that I am responsible for the pain in any way...I’m just trying to describe the depth of despair my Psyche reaches. THE PAIN IS ALL...The worst toothache of my life grew and festered while I was in jail. Days and nights of unmedicated, unrelenting ever sharper blinding pain, the begging to the uncaring guards, the banging of my head against wall, bed frame, and bars finally culminated in my being strip searched, shackled and transported like a rabid dog to a room with a chair to which I was handcuffed...arms and legs....no anesthesia. I can still feel the man’s knee on my stomach and the pressure of his left hand covering and roughly pushing unmercifully against my face as the unyielding tooth refused to be pulled. The muscles of his upper body shook from the tension as he pulled again and again on that tooth. The pain and terror and helplessness took me to the edge of consciousness as the molar finally shattered and each of the three roots were dug from my head. The man’s fury and frustration were repeated with each stubborn piece. When a Cluster peaks, it feels as if not one but each of my teeth and every root, top and bottom on the left side of my face are once again experiencing THAT pain...unfortunately so is my eye socket, temple, forehead and even top of my head...each with it’s individual spiking...all at the same time. You probably think that with that much pain I’d be writhing on the floor, unable to stand, that I’d be screaming and crying...you would be right. DEN

Brother are you playing my song! Yes, I too feel the fire ants sensation in my jaw. It feels like a searing ,hot, raw, deep right on the friggin nerve pain right? (geez, my use of advectives is put to the test when talking about ch's-I HATE THEM!) The tooth tingly feeling is often my first clue that all hell's about to break loose.Do you get the really just so cute ear pain with your jaw pain? Not your classic earache pain of course not-this is more like the structure of your ear feels all crimped up. I am actually compelled to pull my ear about until it kinda crunches into a spot of comfort-Natch, I use the term loosely. Man, am I so longwinded? Be nice my head hurts I've had TMJ for years and years and sleep with a mouth guard which has actually helped my headpain in general. It also saves the jaw from being tensed all night. I've bitten through 4 this year so far. If you don't dental ins. just get a sports guard from the store, dip it in the hot water and fit to your mouth. I like these ones better anyway as they are more biteable and they feel more natural. Have a look online at some TMJ sites hopefully they might be of interest to you. I feel your pain all too well and should you get any info on a cure please let me know kay? ...yes, I know but a girl can dream can't she? Take care and please do try the mouth guard your teeth and jaw will thank you! Marianne

Hmmm! I so should have known better than to bring up the devil's name buecause that bastard just had to appear! So much for my big mouthguard talk. Right now I'd like to put my mouthguard in a friggn blender and go kick my dentists ass...ya know just for good measure! F-WORD! So sick and sick and f-ing sick to death of hurting! Get stuffed! Who in the hell ever heard of this anyway? I mean, okay, hi! Let's have the most onscure and absurd pain that noone knows where it comes from, nor why, nor is there any treatment to make them fuck off for life. Sure I want that one. This ch is bullshit and stupid and though I don't believe in fighting as such if it were a person I'd so just kick the shit out of it. Like really stomp it's face. Er, can you tell I get a big, fat dose of rage with my ch? Do you think that the toothfairey still bring money to grownups for their teeth becuase I am about to rip mine out and while I'm at in take my jaw too and my neck and my ear arghghghgh! Would it be inappropriate for me to cuss like a sailor for a few pages??please... I hurt so much I am so tired of hurting I am so tired of complaining about the pain I am so tired of feeling as though my pain is a burden to others I am so tired of resenting my loved ones for not understanding what I go through I am just so tired thanks for listening now.for some knock out drops. i know there were some round here..... Marianne, I understand the resentment for those around me not understanding the pain.... It is to the point I feel guilty when I am having a CH. But really I am the one having the pain. The attacks are so often now, my wife and children are caloused to them. I am also very tired of fighting, but you gotta live on right? I fight on because of those who don't understand, not for me. If it were just about me, there is no way I would have lasted this long. There is no one that I would wish these on... Well ok there is 1 but that is all. I would never want anyone in my family to have them, it might make them a bit more empathetic, but never would I want them to have one. The sad thing is, Connor my 5yr old does have them.. eposodic right now. I would doulbe the CH's I have to take away his. --Athos

I have most of the pain in my right eye tooth. The pain has been decribed very well. I also get ringing in my ears sometimes. I've used mouth guards too & they do help. I apply pressure with my fingers over the area of my mouth that hurts. Not so much pressure that it's all out pain...it's hard to describe. Try it very gently and increase the pressure until the pain lessens. Kate

Gina, I know the hurts to breathe feeling. I breathe in through my nose, place the tip of my tongue behind my front teeth, and breathe out. I usually do this slowly. Your mouth does not need to be open wide while breathing this way, so it can be done anywhere. Hope this helps. Wishing you PFDAN's Kate

During bad cycles I end up clenching and grinding my teeth very badly at night. Then I wake up with my jaw muscles feeling like I got sucker punched during the night. Wearing a bite plate during bad cycles, either from the dentist or one of the sports hot dip ones, has worked wonders for me too. MarkV

I just can't get over this! Everytime I think I must be the only one I read posts from my fellow painsters and you all have had them too! Painful breathing..yup, right side bottom and top molars. I too do the pressure massge thing helpful much of the time course if you happen to press the worng place or apply one degree of pressure to hard be ready to hit the roof. Be careful &start gentle! I have also found that sometimes a bit of Anbesol the teething ointment put on the gum area and or tooth helps a lot. Can't imagine why at other times it does nothing?? This is the most absurd condition! Does anyone else have neck pain with their ch's or in general? Mine is specific and I've been surfing the net and turns out that this muscle called the sternomastoiddelta (i hope that's right??) is a big cause of headaches and jaw pain if the muscle is strained, damaged or stressed. These muscles run on both sides of the head and neck from front to back. They are the muscles that allow your head to move yes & no and left & right. Sorry, I spose if it's an issue you guys will just look it up! Anyhoot, on a 1-10 scale 10 worse mine begins at a steady 5 and then plays hop scotch on up the scale. If you look at my neck it is even evident that the right side of my neck is bigger ( yes, a very cute look for a girl eh?) The muscle is so stressed and taut that it is bigger (okay, I'm not freakish but you know it's bigger). I am 100% certain that this ties into my ch's. The pain travels along much the same route as this muscle. Geez, sorry to go on foks but I am terribly curious to know is any of you share this issue?? Sadly, I'd just about bet the farm that some of you do. POOR!!! Well, I was in tears when I sat down to the computer with a blazing inferno of pain licking away at the inside of my brain. Thanks for making me laugh "I wouldn't wish these on anyone! Well, okay, maybe 1 person...". I laughed out loud a feat which a mere 30 minutes ago was out of the question. I am so glad I've found you all! Marianne

Marianne, I get the neck pain too. Sometimes if I press on that muscle hard enough I can dull the pain in my temple a little, if only temporarily. My wife says she can tell when an episode is starting when she sees me squeezing on that muscle on my neck. I wasn't even aware that I was doing it.

Hi Bill, I've been reading a lot recently about the sterno-what the hell ever the name is muscle and related issues. It seems that over like 90% of people who have pain both head and neck stemming from this area have had almost 100% relief from pain after getting the nerve injected with Botox. It has to be reinjected I think like every 3-6 months but who cares? As soon as I return home from this visit abroad I'm going to look into having this procedure as it sounds heaven sent to me! I'll most assuridly keep ya'll posted! Oh, I too get some relief from pressue to this muscle. During a ch the muscle is much more ridgid and I've been known to press and squeeze the area with so much force that I've had bruises the next day, however, it helps the pain. Anything to help this demonic friggin pain to abait!!!!!!BE well! Marianne ;D

Going thru alot of the same stuff rite now , myself...i have severe TMJ along with chronic chs...my chs were under control with medication...then my TMJ flared up...the muscle contractions in my jaw and face flared up the chs now...i have a bite guard but it tends to make it worse...going to get botox in my jaw and face if my insurance agrees to cover it...i can literally feel the muscle spasms in my jaw and face...wake up with my teeth so clenced and such intense pain all i can do is cry and jump up..then, i get hit with a ch...thinking about getting a swimming pool installed...when i had this happen before, i would swim every nite before bed, my muscles would relax and the spasms stopped...then the chs went away again....smiles,nancyc ps praying you find an answer for your pain...

Hi Nancy, Hope I spelled that right???? I so totally understand your pain. Sounds as though we are in the same place. I urge you to get the botox if at all possible though insurance companies can be idiots! If they turn you down don't give up as so much research and documentation supporting this treatment exists and being that it is not cosmetic most insurance carriers do cover it. Or rather they will you just might have to give them a bit of a shove! I'm counting the days until I get that botox injection. I pray it is all that I've heard as I've got all of my hopes pinned on it! Take care and you and all of the painsters are in my prayers! marianne ;D

You guys are tops! There's so many "symptoms" I've experienced, like the breathing thing, and had no idea if they were CH related or just something else in me that was screwing up. Thnks to all, so much!!!

Never had c/h until had wisdom teeth pulled out. then 2 months later slowly progressed to chronic, and have been that way for 7 years. Doc says meds wouldn't respond if tooth related. Still can't help but disbelieve this theory.
