False alarm or short time between cycles?

Question for the Episodics: In the past my cycles have been like clockwork - every 18 months or so. In 20yrs, the shortest 'time off' was about 14 months, the longest was 28 months, but generally they are about 18 months apart. My last cycle ended in mid-October (6 months ago). I think they might be back. No overnight hit yet, but I can feel that familiar feeling of the pressure building up. One interesting point: About 2 weeks before my last cycle started, I was up REAL LATE one night. Within a week, I could feel them coming on. On Friday night, my roommate brought home about 25 friends when the bar closed. I didn't get any sleep at all. Got up at 8:00AM and had a beer (or 10) before sleeping from 1:00PM to 9:00PM. Needless to say, I got no sleep again the next night. I was able to sleep 6 hours last night (a long night for me), but could feel that familiar pressure when I woke up this morning. I'm not worrying yet, but am curious if anyone else has had a cycle start REALLY EARLY? Also, has anyone noticed that a sleepless period has unexpectedly started a cycle? Hoping for a 'false alarm', grant

My "normal" cycle started in december and was quickly cut short with verpamil/cold weather. I usually have approx. 11 months between cycles, but entered a new one last month. Could be I'm having this off-season episode because the last one was cut so short, dunno.

| Shit. That's not what I really wanted to hear, but that's why I asked the question. Hope your cycle is quick and relatively painless. grant ???

These last 2 cycles have been nice and easy. Verpamil keeps the attacks very far and between, and Imigran/trex takes care of the rest. I'm VERY lucky.

My cycles always start in the fall (with one exception) and used to last anywhere from 2 to 3 months but this last cycle went 6 months before leaving in Feb. so who knows? I'm 18 yrs into this and I STILL haven't figured out the beast...sometimes it's every year and sometimes it's every other year...got me scratching ??? Maybe because your sleep pattern is f'd up is why your feeling it coming on. Try to get back to normal on your sleep and see what happens. good luck and pfdan's Jim

Grant, i dont know about everybody else, but ive only had 2 cycles since sept 2000. Im in one now that isnt too bad yet. And i went 5 years before that in remission. Maybe im just lucky i guess. This cycle started on my birthday in march. I only had 1 attack then, and only shadows for a month after that till april when i got hit daily. I had plenty of time to prepare myself for what i knew was on its way. i stocked up on 02 and got my imitrex out of the fridge that had been there for years. I dont think that sleep or no sleep has anything to do with it, since i have been a nite owl for many years. I dont drink any alcohol at all anytime and havent since sept 2000. I hope this helps. And i hope the beast passes you by. .......................andy

grant I hope it is just a little blip for you and not the real thing. I haven't noticed lack of sleep starting a cycle but it sure makes it worse when I'm in cycle. Kick the beast back down before he can stand up again!!!! Did you get your O2 - Check your e-mail. Ross

My cycles are unpredictable but a lack of sleep will definitely trigger an attack or maybe even a cycle if I'm already in a danger zone.

| Nothing wrong with Kokanee When out of cycle, drinking never does anything as far as triggering. That's why I'm a little concerned (wasn't expecting this for a WHILE) I should know real soon if its time for a beer-free stretch. grant

I didn't bother waiting to see if it was a blip or an 'early' cycle. got myself some fungi and kicked the bastard's ass instead. (Don't know if it did any good, but I feel GREAT today!) grant

I think lack of sleep can be an issue. I experienced a few nighgts with little sleep and a few beers and guess what I am in a cycle now. It has been almost 2 years since my last and I thought I was free, but last week I got welcomed back to the real world. Anyway I was at the nuerologist today and he wants me to do a sleep study. A lot of doctors believe sleep apnea causes the cycles. As far as you getting those feelings you know what that means so prepare yourself. I am the same I knew they were coming a week before it hit. My doctor gave me prednisolone and it seems to help. Hopefully it is a false alarm. Good Luck

I've always wondered about 'sleep cycles' and their relationship with CH (if any). Even when out of cycle, I rarely sleep more than about 4 or 5 hours. (Quite often less ) I discussed it with a doc years ago, but don't think it has anything to do with sleep apnea in my case. Its not so much that I can't sleep through the night. The bigger problem is that I don't usually go to bed until tired and that usually ends up being pretty late. (This last weekend wasn't typical. ) grant
