Tip for avoiding the K10's

I am a "newbie" to the site... 16 years of CH's. I have posted this before but wanted to post it again as maybe it will save some people from having to go thru even one K 10.. it would be worth it. It will likely work for some other people too if done properly. It is basically manually doing what some of the pain meds (primarily the vasoconstrictors) try and accomplish. It's worth a try if you haven't already. Try depressing your fingers into your neck on the affected side of the head. The pressure needs to be on the carotid deep inside the neck. Sixteen years ago this caused me to become really light headed so I could only do it for 20-30 seconds at a time..then release. Repeat. Now I can do it for as long as I have to without the lightheadedness. I know it sounds weird but any Kip10 that can be avoided is worth it. I spoke with my neurologist about the risks of doing this eg... damaging anything such as the heart. He said no that the heart is very resillient and he wouldn't worry about it. This slowing of the blood brings me relief and sometimes aborts within 1-5 minutes (primarily the daytime attacks). Nightime is more difficult because the pain has intensified more before you are awoken and aware of what is happening. Some of this depends on where you are within your cycle (if your episodic). I'll still have a couple of weeks where K-10's are inevitable. For me, the neck pressure, a couple of cups of coffee, and a cigarette or two.. I can usually avoid the K10's. This is just my methods and I hope it can maybe help someone out there. kj
