This kinda goes with Jonny's poll...

A few of the answers to Jonny's poll got me thinking (smell the smoke? Smiley)

How long did you endure CH attacks before you went to a doctor?

I started getting them when I was around 11 or 12, but I didn't even tell my mother about them until I was in my teens.  Once I did, we both assumed that, due to their coming spring and fall, that they were allergy or sinus related and since the pain didn't last long and they went away (back then) in about 4 to 6 weeks and I had no other symptoms like fever or vomiting we didn't feel it necessary to go to a doctor.  When I began to realize that these things were hitting at the same time each day,  and knowing from others what real sinus conditions acted like and that this was not like that (I've been lucky and never had sinus problems, my mom was sure it was allergies, but couldn't explain the clockwork aspect) and when the pain was causing me to bang my head on the wall or hit myself in the head with hard heavy objects, we finally decided to try and see what it was.  I was probably around 17 at the time.
Course, they didn't know what it was....but evidently I explained it well or the docs weren't too hung up on themselves because they never MIS-diagnosed me.  The closest I got to that was they guessed that it was some sort of migraine variant and so tried me on the standards for migraine hoping it would work.
So, I didn't even see a doctor for around 5 or 6 years.

My mother was a good mother, she didn't run us to the doctor for every little sniffle.  I feel that allowed us to build our own immunities and we grew up much healthier than most.  (It appalls me how over prescribed antibiotics are!)

So anyway, me, 5 or 6 years before I went to a doctor.

How about you guys?

I was away at college and couldn't go see a doctor (that, and wasn't sure if I should go to a doc for a 'headache'  Roll Eyes ).  For about 8 weeks, I was getting hit at night and right after lunch.  Ended up missing afternoon classes more often than I went to. (almost caused me to fail)     Then they went away as quickly as they came.   A year later when they hit again, got my a$$ into the doc's office the 2nd day, got an appointment for the neuro (3 months away  Angry ), but the doc was pretty sure it was CH.  He got me started on a long list of meds, mostly narcotics  Angry...........

Brad had em at least a year before I could get him to go to a doc...he kept thinkin it was allergies....so he stopped drinkin milk and dairy stuff a brief period....then he thought it was cig's or caffine.....he was thinkin it was 'sumthin' that'd run it's course and go ta hell away. It got worse and worse......everytime we went out he got hit.....he had to do sumthin ! So after the frist doc's visit it was a while b-4 the one sudgested CH after goin the sinus infection route and stress or homrone level muss up route or even thought it was sumthin around his shop casuein ha's. Prolly several months after the first doc visit he got on the rite track. So all in all...a good year and a half before he found out what was goin on and got some abortive meds started. Shewww.......long and bumpy road Pam

Almost immediately because I never got HA"s before and I thought I was dying. My father had a brain tumor and I was thinking I had the same. No tumors for me, just CH.  Undecided

When I was a kid, my parents would take me to the doctors, and they'd just declare that children don't get headaches, and send us on our way.  When I was 19, I tried to get doctored for it, but he had no fuckin' clue, and kept prescribing various worthless NSAIDs.  Went to the ER a couple of times after that doc, and they'd just say it was some sort of migraine, and I should see a doctor.  Started seein' a doctor again last year, and for over a month, he diagnosed me with severe chronic migraine, or some other bullshit, and prescribed me all sorts of worthless opiates.  Luckily, he finally gave up, and sent me to a neurologist.

Less than a week. After the second attack, I sped up my regular neurologist appointment. He knew what it was immediately. Must be my old MRI....... Roll Eyes

Sean, you need a new weatherman! One that not only will tell you if it will rain or snow, but what hour of the day it will start and stop Wink

I'm like Suzy.  I had never had a headache before in my life.  So after a week of solid headache after headache day after day I made an apt. with my dr.  I knew something was wrong.  I thought a brain tumor and so did my neuro at first but when the MRI ruled it out I was told I had ch.

Jonny got me by 4 years, although I'm episodic. I've posted before about hating to go to the doc unless I am ACTUALLY dying. I'd just stumble through the episode for a couple of months and then say ... "Oh well, must have been sinus infection". The only thing that made me go was when I noticed my pupils were unequal. That freaked me out and forced me to make the call.

Take care

There were many "quacks" that I attempted to get some answers from for about 4 years.  Went from doctor to doctor - one stuck a straight pin up and down my legs, gave me a muscle relaxer and said it was "all in my head."  I felt like saying NO SHIT!  Needless to say those pills went right down the drain!   Angry

It was 4 years of suffering until I was diagnosed properly....
