I'M NOT CRAZY ! NEW TO BOARD

 Hello everyone. I am very happy to have found this website. The Beast visits me often. He comes for 2 to 3 months in a row between Jan and April. My remission period is somewhere close to 3 years. I felt like screaming,"YES, That's it!" when I was reading the homepage to this site. I can relate so much to what is written. I have recently started using the Imitrex injection but have found how costly it can be. I have health insurance, but still have to pay about $45 for 4 shots. Luckily my doctor has given me 6 extra shots. Insurance will only pay for 6 shots a month. I am thinking of getting a refill every month and stock up duing remission, so that I am ready when the BEAST attacks. He comes 2-3 hours after I go to sleep.
Is anyone on this board taking ELAVIL for preventative messures?

I took Elavil years ago and it did nothing for my CH. 
But, ya never know, what doesn't work for some does for others.

Hi everyone. I have been reading all the different post and it is nice to know that the beast as you call it can be controled. I am hoping to learn more about the beast to help my 14 year old daughter deal with her own beast. Any help or addvice anyone can give will be a lot of help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome.... and I have taken Elavil as a prevntative in the past.
It actually allowed me to sleep thoughout the night.. but made me feel like I was wrapped in cellophane!

I took my doc's recommendation and took 2 elavil before going to bed. I normally have enough energy for two people, but not today. I am so mellow. I don't like this at all. He also has me giong to physical therepy for my neck pain. That isn't working either. I was so tired yesterday. I slept for 9 hours last night and am still tired this morning. At least the beast didn't beat me up last night.

Ma1rk1, the severe drowsiness and cotton-headed feeling will eventually wear off as your body gets used to the Elavil. However, if you take anything else that causes even a little bit of drowsiness it will come back big time.
When I was on it, it was for 2 reasons, 1 to try to relieve anxiety attacks and the doc said it should help with my headaches (didn't know it was ch at the time) so I was on it for about a year or so.
I found out the hard way that even after your body gets used to the Elavil adding something else (in my case it was meclizine for dizziness) would put you right back in the "just about pass out" drowsy mode. By "hard way" I mean that I almost passed out while driving to work each morning! BAD, BAD FEELING to start falling asleep while driving 65mph on the interstate!! BE CAREFUL!
