Hi all, I'm new here.

Just wanted to say Hello.  I was on the old board, but I'm ashamed to say that I am one of those who left when the beast left.  Well he's back and so am I.  It's been 2 yrs and 8 months and I really thought they were gone for good.  I cleaned out my medicine cabinet and threw away my old meds about 2 months ago.  I should have known better,  I used to hang on to my maternity clothes so I wouldn't get pregnant.
This is the strangest cluster I have ever had.  I had one attack a night for a week,  but didn't go to my doc cause it wasn't too bad.  Then  I went straight to 5 attacks between 7pm on  Sunday and 8am on Monday, each one worse than the last.  The last one on Monday morning had me on the floor, a crying, rocking, head banging, panting mess.  I had to try to call in to work in the middle of it and scared my boss to death.
So I called my doctors office when it was over and found out he's on vacation for the week.  They told me they could get me in with the PA on Wednesday (today) and I told them I wouldn't make it till then, so they got me into accute care at 5 Monday night with a different doc who gave me some Zomig which has worked in the past but he didn't  want to put me on anything preventative.  So I have to wait till next week for that.
But after all this I had no more attacks all night Monday night and all day Tuesday till 3:30 and 8:30 this morning.  The Zomig worked, just not quick enough.
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hey, and thanks for all the great info on here.   els.

Hey, Els-
Seems the beast is playing to a packed audience tonight- sorry you're one of them. Feel free to drop in anytime- you already know this is a great bunch, ready to help you get through this cycle. Best wishes for a PF night- and a quick exit for the beast.

Els - welcome back!  Sorry to hear that you're being hit again and that you aren't able to get any relief due to your doc being out of town.  I'm with Pam - we keep so many extra meds on hand just in case I start a cycle out of the normal time.  I hope that you can find some relief soon.  Stick around even out of cycle - maybe you can help someone in need.

PS - Hey Drk - sure have missed those descriptive posts....I enjoy them so....THANK YOU!!!     ;D

Welcome back els.  Sorry to read that the SOB found your address again.

Glad your back.  Hope this cycle is a short one for you.  After it's over it would be nice if you stuck around to help row the boat.  Having those around that have been blessed with a ending cycle giver those still in cycle hope.

Thanks for all the support guys,
I definately will stick around this time, I've learned the hard way that a long break doesn't mean they're gone for good.
I am doing OK so far.  I've been trying to stay in a routine, going to bed and getting up at the same time every day and not taking naps during the day, not that I would have time anyway.  I started taking Melatonin and it seems to be limiting the number of hits at night to one bad one and one when I get up in the morning. None during the day and one in the evening that half a Zomig takes care of.
A trick I found with the Zomig tablets is to crush them between two spoons and then take them without too much water.  If I do this at night on an empty stomach they kick in in just over 10 minutes instead of 25 if I swallow them whole.  It's something to try if pills are all you have.  Once they start to work the pain is gone in under a minute.  I start feeling these little pops and they pain just drains away.  The Zomig makes me a little woozy so I sleep pretty good afterwards.
Does any one else get these popping sensations when the headache starts and stops?
Take care and stay pain free.     els
