Has it been speculated upon whether the abnormal dilation of blood vessels which causes CH pain is caused by different physiological circumstances in different people?
For example, Subject A could have a mutated gene, which causes a chain of events which ultimately leads to the dilation of blood vessels , and, thus, a CH attack.
Subject B could have some kind of sleeping disorder which deprives the body of oxygen, which results in some kind of compensatory reaction which ultimately leads to abnormal dilation, and a CH.
Subject C could have a totally different set of criteria which abnormally dilates the blood vessels of the trigeminal nerve.

Could there ultimately be a type 1, type 2, type 3, etc.. cluster headache? It would help to explain why something which works for one person doen't work for someone else, and why some things are triggers for one person, while someone else has a completely different set of triggers, or seemingly none at all.

There certainly could be some truth to the possibility.  The beast is most definately a mutant.  Which to me explains why drugs that work for one will not work for another, and triggers for one do not trigger another.

I'm not familiar with any literature or research done in that area, but it might make sense that just as a migraine has many facets and kinds, a CH might too.

CH was thought to be a form of migraine until not long ago if I understand the literature correctly.

Perhaps we can get our convention Doctors to do some research

In 3 1/2 years here I have not seen one person that has had Lithium and Verapamil work for them as long as it has worked for me (12 years)....For those that do have luck with this combo, the luck runs out after a couple years.

Plus, why are there so few of us that have no triggers at all?

Are chronics the only ones that don't have triggers, or does that go for both?....

... that, and alchohol triggers me some days, and not others....

.... by the way, I wouldn't recommend shots of Turkey or J. Walker while in cycle....  I learned this the hard way.  A couple beers would give me a 5 or 6, but add a little whiskey to the coctail, and you're gunna dance with the Devil 'til the sun comes up.....
