Thanks for that I thought this was extremley informative and well worth reading....!!!!

The only bit that made me laugh was the bit that said most clusterhead sufferers had a very low sex drive...hmmmm they obviously never used any of you guys in the study... ;D

Before recomending it you need to study it carefully. It has some big errors like O2 relaxs blood vessels to stop CH.

Thx, Opus.

That's why I said "for what it's worth".   (didn't catch that about the o2 though.    Lips Sealed)

In general, I thought it was pretty good.  (but... I haven't done any meds for years)

Yes, this is one of the more 'interesting' descriptions.

Still looking for someone who can correctly describe the pain....   is it just me or does it seem like all the words  I've seen to describe the pain seem..... well, not quite severe enough.  Ummm Suicide is close, but, well... does ne one agree???

For me Wendy, there are no words that can describe the pain.  It is indescribable, and I don't think there are words in any language that have that ability.

Thanks for showing the article, Grant.  It brings up several good points for discussion.
Since you asked for more comments  Grin...

My 2 main concerns with the article are:

1.  They seem to sometimes mixup migraine and cluster symptoms.  I haven't read of too many here getting a tingling sensation or visual disturbance.  I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, just that it's not the norm for CH.

2.  They seem to perpetuate the idea that CH is seasonal.  I would counter, that CH is not seasonal but rather it is cyclical.

Also, CH is bad enough to decrease drive for life, much less drive for sex.  After going thru all the meds, all the lack of sleep, all the obsessing, all the pain, would it be any wonder that a clusterhead would not have thier 'next score' on the forebrain?  Kinda boils down to Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs.

Good job Grant, it's good to discuss what kind of info is out there concerning our cursed condition.

Rox,

I would have to steal a line from the infamous Hub and describe the pain as "Exquisite".

I used to chuckle at that description - until I really understood it.

The only way I can think to describe the pain is taking a downed wire ( like with sparks shooting out the end & it's flopping all over the place) taking that wire & sticking it up my nostril & holding it there for an hour. Thats what my attacks feel like....

The article seemed a bit off to me.

The part that really got me is Cronic Daily Headache.

I guess my daily Cluster fall into that broad bucket too.

What the heck happend to Hemicrania Continua Diagnosis and the related Icepicks that go with it?

What I loved most is that of all the drugs mentioned only my friend Imitrex and Verapamil do anythjing for me.

I guess since I have been cronic for 18+ months then nothing applies. And I had hope. Tongue

It seems as though you have a three-pronged fish hook running back and forth around small areas of a particular nerve behind the eye making sure it has found the best spot to inflict pain. After a time, one of barbs breaks off and the hook retires for maintenance so it can it return later and work at maximum efficiency. It takes time for the repair so it leaves quickly, and at the same time allowing the nerve to recoup so it can fully appreciate the next round in a few hours. After a time, the hook fatigues to the point of being irreparable and can no longer do its job. Sadly, sooner or later, replacements are usually found.
