Imitrex In Vial form.

Did you know that instead of the Statdose tricks mentioned on the home page that your Neuro's can prescribe Imitrex in Vials that you can draw out of with an Insulin style needle. Works a heck of a lot better and the pain is much less than the wonderfull statdose adrenalin rush and pain of a fast push injection. You are also able to inject only what you need to abort an attack. For thiose of you with lousy insurance it is a good alternative if you can give yourselfs an injection vs the statdose plunger. Check it out.

Hey, thanks for the info. If you look carefully at the imitrex tip page, you'll see that DJ put an update to it, discussing the use of the vials. As for my imitrex here in Canada, it comes ready in a syringe so all I do is aim and shoot Be well, Amber

I use the vials instead of the statdose. My neuro didn't even prescribe it either. The pharmacist just asked me which I would prefer. I was as easy as that......

How do you get Imitrex in vials? GSK Hungary's representative told me no way to get Imigran in vials in Hungary.

Tracey, Did the pharmacist give you the needles too? I tried to get vials instead of statdose but the pharmasist said I need a new script & also one for the needles. My doc says whatever I want so getting the vials wont be a problem for me. Affording them...now thats a dfifferent story.... Kev

Totka, Check the Ouch site. I think I saw something about getting Imitrex from out of country sources with a proper script. This is for members only, I may be wrong and it may be for US only but it may be worth a look. opus

| If you have to pay for them, definitely shop around first. I found the double stadose packs range anywhere from $120 to $314 depending on the pharmacy. And I have seen the price for five vials range from $250 to $469.

Thanks Frank, I will indeed shop around. I am paying $150 for statdoses now. I've read somewhwere on the board that Walmart may be cheapest, I'll try them next time. My Doc did get Glaxo to give me 5 free statdoses a month so that will help a bit. Not sure how long that will last though as Glaxo doesn't seem to thrilled about giving me any.... Thanks again, Kev

| Yes, the pharmacist gave me the needles, but we had a little disagreement about the ones he gave me. They looked like something we use on our horses....way bigger than I really wanted to be sticking myself with. He wouldn't give me the diabetic needles, which are very small. So I ended up using my sons allergy syringes, which are still MUCH smaller than the others. Didn't need a script for them either.

Frank, I get 12 viales a month from my insur. ,which is never enough. I have a pharm. that sells me as many viales as i need at his cost ( $74.50 ) he even went as far to show me what Glaxo charges him ( not that i asked to see it ) i am just so grateful for what he has done for me as far as getting me what i need. Could you please let me know where i can get those for $ 50.00 each. I would appreciate it very much.

My insurance is nuts. They will only cover 6 vials a month but will allow me to get as many statdose cartridges I need as long as I pay copay for every 6 cartridges. Makes sense to them. Not to me. I guess I get to fight them again.

| Glaxo sez the needle shouldn't penetrate more than about 6mm deep. The U-100 insuline syringes are about 10mm though I haven't had a problem with them. I'd say 3/4 or 1 inch isn't what they had in mind though...

| Hadn't ever read that Frank. Thanks for the info. Mine are 28 gauge, 1/2" (12.7mm) needles. Going to pick up more trex today, I'll see what else they have.

Imitrex injections are meant to be subcutaneous. Just under the skin is fine. The guage of the needle will only affect the comfort level of performing the injection.

| Thanks Don If I could feel it going in, no matter what size needle....then I would assume my head wasn't bad enough for a shot. Tracey BTW: Does anyone know the residual effect of trex? How long it stays in the body? I can use a shot, and then get hit in an hour. I would think that the trex would keep the ch's at bay for a little longer than that.

Don, The Doc is Dr. Butler in Connecticut. He is the best neuro I could have possibly hoped for. He has a relative who is a clusterhead so I guess he knows how bad it is. He perscribed me a statdose every 2 days for a year. 100 mg imitrex pills as needed for a year, O2 as needed for a year ect. He even gave me prednisone in case I wanted "a vacation". He is awesome. Maybe someone could type me up a letter to invite him to the convention? Kev
