bullshit jonny - i got bogged down in the protest threads becuase i was trying to defend myself from being called anti-american by zealots on this board.

If you want people to come to the convention then STF UP with all this insulting juvenile BULLSHIT and act like mature people, then maybe this would seem more like a friendly place.
Since the little political flame-war started I have had a LOT of emails and messages by folks who said they also found it was an informative board, but HOSTILE so they left ........ and would not want to attend a convention with people likely to stand in a corner and snicker at them
so think about that in relation to your measley 12 sign-ups

But seriously, this picking on people thing is getting old. The joke is dead. Let it go.
And as far as people feeling the boards are hostile, I get the same responses from people *sigh*. There's a big difference between speaking your mind (ie: free speech) and being a bully and being disrespectful. One doesn't have to name call to get ones point across, and to be honest, it's a sad replacement for a real comment.
Telling someone to F off in leu of a real comment is tacky and immature.
Rather than attacking each other about the stuff that doesn't matter, it would be a lot better for morale if we could unite on the real reason we're here - that we're in pain and we're looking for help and support from each other and the medical community.
The good thing is that a lot of new people have introduced themselves lately and have been getting good responses. And there is help to be found here...let's try and remember that community and support is the real goal.

here's the thing...a select few of you are united...and you are definitely in that group. But I know just as many people who have IM'd me and so forth saying that the reason they are not going to the convention is because they just plain don't feel the love. They feel disrespected and insulted a good portion of the time, so much so that I know people who have genuinely come for support and to encourage others and have left because the extra bs was too much to take.
It's really childish and it reminds me of grade school. To make fun of others for sport and gang up on them just makes y'all look insecure and mad inside. Whether you are or not.
I'm not even trying to defend MichaelC. He's a grown man and he can do that for himself. I wouldn't normally even respond to a thread like this, but I just couldn't help myself.
The people who are broke and can't go have said so, but there are just as many who aren't going because of the company. They don't say it here because they don't want to get harped on. MichaelC is only an example of one person in a larger group that just never speak up because of the bashing they would get.
Around here, if you don't agree with a select few people, you either don't speak, or you risk a major bashing. Sounds more like tyranny than free speech to me.

Show the emails. I personally don't believe you. You chose to start a thread for a view from a protester. Then you stooped to a low level by setting a welcome thread that took quotes out of context and intentionally set about sending sufferers away. Of course, you also chose to remove your post. Why is that? Did you not want people to see what you really had to say? If it's worth saying the first time, it's worth leaving it there. Deal with the consequences of your actions.
As for the convention, the people who attend actually do so because they truly do want to get recognition in the medical community. You apparently do not care about that. Fortunately for you, you will benefit from the outcome, without ever having to spend a dime of your own money, or a minute of your time.

Amber I have not seen any thread that has been posted about CH get ignored. I do not see where the members of this board have not united to help a fellow sufferer, old or new.
You make the decision on what to read and what to take and leave. That is not my responsibility.
Those that choose not to go to the convention because they don't feel 'loved' is their choice. The convention is not put on for the purpose of feeling loved. It's put on so we can get recognition in the medical community, and have speakers that are knowledgeable about our condition come and interact with us and further our own cause.
If people choose not to attend because they are insecure about whether they will be snickered at from the corner seem to me to not care too much about further cluster research and recognition.

btw. the quotes were not out of context, the context of the thread was "rude and belligerent things people say on here to those of different political opinions." and that's exactly what was quoted.
and about the messages and emails cat, I can crop the relevant protions and post them, but not the names of the potential flame victims. Amber seems to have a few as well.
But i don't really feel compelled to spend time proving something that is totally obvious

I agree with much of what Amber says. She has made me sit up and remember why I registered here in the first place. I have had quite a lot of private messages of support as well when I have received very personal insults so I can echo the views on that too. (I do not apply this to the threads where personal views are expressed about the war- a public subject with too much emotion attached to remain civilised.
Michael,whilst I do think some of the 'flak' you got there was deserved as you were inflammatory at times,I am also aware that I have used insulting language to you Michael, but my only weak excuse is that sometimes you pissed me off as I felt you were insensitive at a difficult time, and truthfully, it is all too easy to get pulled into the group mentality. This is weakness and I regret it. I will not be a hypocrite any further about this.
It does feel a bit like school to me too, you are either in with the in crowd and get protected, or if you never were 'in' or they decide you are 'out', you get support privately. I think this is again a bit like the school bully, no-one will stand up publicly in case they get attacked too or get pushed out. They disagree with what is said and feel sorry for the person but only feel able to support them in private.
The upshot of this is is that I can see why less confident people wouldn't feel able to come to a large gathering, and also why we should perhaps be a bit more gentle with new people.
My overall view remains the same. Banter, even sexual banter is fun when reciprocated. Obscene insults, directed very clearly at an individual who you do not know, and who does not know you, are not.
