I have not had any extreme prejudice because of my headaches, but i almost had some problems. I was in the office of interviews to get into RN school, when i got hit. I knew it was coming, but i couldn't reschedule my appointment. The head of the RN school knew of the CH, and asked if it would interfere with my education causing me drop classes once i got started, because competion was tough. Ireasured her that i could handle anything that came my way, and to prove it , i had her look up my transcript on the computer. a 4.0, and i told her that is with being chronic. I worried all the way home that the beast messed up my one shot to get into school, and the director called me, and told me i was in. I asked her what made her believe in me, and her responce was you stayed for the whole interview. And, she ended the conversation with my husband has episodic. Relief set in, but fear of prejudice i might face later at the hands of people that do not have first hand knowlege also set in. Has anyone had close calls, or have you experience some form of prejudice? childinside

Nope, I learned early on that if I was going to make any real money with this in my head I would have to do it on my own, Out of 28 years chronic I have worked for myself for close to 20 of them. The other years I could hide out in the shithouse working for some one else, in the metal fabrication trade dudes will believe you when you tell them whats happening more than the stuffed shirts will. .......................................jonny

I'm not a lawyer, I have more class than that, but I'm betting she had no legal ground to stand on in asking you that question and you would have had a major law suit if you were disquailified due to CH.

At fist i took offence to the question, and i realized that if there was a chance that i maight drop due to medical problems they needed to fill that spot with someone who could stay. the school i am trying to get in is very tough competion, and school is even tougher to stay in. i can do it, i know i can. thanks for your post. childinside

Yes. No one should have to suffer from CH's. I suffer from CH's & I hate the beast & CH's! I am 100% prejudiced against the beast & CH's. I think the beast should go away forever. In my opinion, the beast should curl up in a ball & die. **Guess I am not too politically correct when it comes to my feelings towards the beast. Oh well. KingOfPain

Childinside, Sounds like you did a great job on the interview and you certainly did great with a 4.0. I think most CH'S can work hard enough to make up for down time due to CH. Ussally for me after a few weeks on a job any lateness due to no sleep is over looked becouse I can more than make up for it during the day. You should inquire about getting some kind of meds, even if you can get o2 on campus it would help a lot and you would miss less classes. Or you can do what I do when I get hit at work and start worrying about everything to your going to explode and some times the beast runs away. Opus

Childinside, well i don't know if it is prejudice or over protectiveness. When i went from EPH to CPH and had no clue what was going on, i worked for an international network provider and my job required me to be on my toes at all times...(you wouldn't believe the things that happened to down the network.) For awhile i was able to schedule my shift for the morning or night shift when the pain wasn't so bad but one evening i got hit just after we got a call for a transatlantic cable problem. The only thing i could do was hold my head and try like hell not to scream or starting banging it against anything. Next thing i know i'm in the boss' car being driven to my house while he had my fiance on the phone asking what could be done for me. The man refused to let me walk to my apartment. Luckily, my other half made it home the same time and took over. I was then ordered to take exceptional leave and not to come to work unless i felt like it. Even then he had someone call and check on me several times a day and even had one co-worker come sit with me during the days when i stopped sleeping. even after that he watched me like a hawk. If i winced he asked me if my head was bothering me and if i needed to go home. too bad the company went bankrupt. i really liked that job. only other "treatment" that annoys me is my family. They havn't been around it for long and they treat me like i'm going to break. It took me 2 years to tone that down in my other half...now i have to start on the Family. Cheers no Tears, April

I have seen prejudice, yes, when I alow people at work to see me in pain. CHer's can do anything that we put our minds to better than most. I am an out of work network engineer because of the beast. My boss thought I must not be able to do my job when the beast is away as well after I had t o go home after the beast gave me hell for a week of no sleep. Just as well, did not like the job anyway. As far as Meds, nothing short of morpgine worked for me until I tried prednizone. Stariods suck, but they work for alot of us. Check with your Nero. forgive the bad spelling, I am lazy tonight. Best of luck, The dog

I lost my job due to CH, but how can you prove it? They said that my job performance was suffering and could not be found when an emergency arose, that was a buch of bull, i was always there. I was a Biomedical Engineer for 5 years and was never out due to the beast. Then I went into grading which i knew very well, operating heavy equipment, of course the beating around of the machinery did'nt help at all when a CH hit, but it tried to keep at it anyway. There where times i would have to stop my machine for awhile before i did damage to something or hurt someone from lack of concentration. It became dangerous. So my boss let me go anyway even though i told him of my CH before hand, but he cited me with to much down time, which was a crock of bull shit, i kept that machine running most of the time with a CH, except for when times were very dangerous. Sometimes you just can't win! Now I'm trying to get disability i hope i do, it's looking good right now. Mikey,
