Don't worry Ted ...... no "discharge" necessary (although i'm glad you've got my back)

I'm going to bring a white flag and my camera and post a peaceful truce pic onto this thread of Dave and I shaking hands.

He felt like I was one of the people who were like the vietnam era-protestors who had been disrespectful to and ignorant of the personal sacrifices of the returning soldiers. here's a sample

"your kind has caused more violance on our home land then any other. You are the ones who start the riots when you talk of peace. You are the ones who made our troops unwanted and hated on their home land when they were only doing what their goverment asked them to do! You are the ones who hurt our service memebers and make them feel unwanted in their home land."

So I guess I'm going to go there and explain that I'm not like that and dont know anyone who is. If I DID know someone who was going to spit on soldiers or something, I would take them aside and 1st figure out WHY they are behaving that way and 2nd explain that these soldiers have sacrificed their own freedom and safety to protect ours, They take orders from a chain of command and should be judged on an individual basis, which is taken care of by military courts.

I feel that dave is doing to me what the protestors did  to him and his friends. Blaming him for their anger with the administration and using the returning vets as scapegoats. Same with this on a tiny scale ... dave is pissed at someone, yelling at me, but I have started no riots or dissed the servicemen. As i said I attended the protests BEFORE the war started and they were peaceful & respectful.

I've been robbed.  I had a real niffy comeback to the headache and now it's gone!

Most of my network connections crapped out about the same time but that should not matter.  This is the CH MB!

Cathi -- must remember I am a male, or at least so I think by the equipment attached to this frame.  But I digest, (burp!),  I only understand blue, red, orange, black, brown, green, yellow and their cousins light and dark.  sooooo  what color is chartreuse?  Is it a common color on a trout? Is it a residual color after being hit by a hockey puck?

But I'll be there.  Save me a glazed energy biscuit.

Thanks

Hey Michael, VA emergency room

And one last thing....there is no confusion about prosters to the WAR. If you protest you are hurting our service men and women.

It is that plain and simple.

I am a Nam vet and a Gulf War vet. I been spit at and
red paint dumped on me by so called peace protesters.
I was angry and hurt and being 19 not sure why people
would want to do that to me since I joined the military to retain our freedom.  I look at the protesters now and it brings back bad memories of what I went through. Only difference is now I'm older and my perspective is different than before.  If it wasn't for us (vets) the protesters wouldn't have the freedom to protest.  Are they cowards, probably not.  Are they scared probably so.  War is hell as the old saying goes.  Some one has to do it and I chose to do it as many of us have.  Is it worth another fight to prove a point between a protestor and a vet. No it really isn't.  When our service men come home they will know that we are and will always be behind them.  By opinion on protestors are if it wasn't for me and my fellow vets you wouldn't be on the streets with that right of protest.  Let it rest.  The welcome home I got from the Gulf War has helped to cope with coming home from the Nam.  Let them protest, we will be there to show our support for the troops.  Dave, what I guess I'm trying to say is smile and let Michael know we gave him the right.

Good thoughts, Ralph.

I opposed, and protested agaisnt, the Nam war, but I never understood why someone would put the blame on the soldiers. Have to say that I met very few protestors who thought that way, and when I did, we would get into it... the debate on the board here recently looked like Sunday school compared to what I would tell those not a very nice persons.

Our service people risk and give their lives to defend our freedoms. Without them, we wouldn't have the right to talk about this.

But it's not enough. Freedom is not automatic.  It won't suddenly spring up because our fighting forces have secured our borders.

The rest is up to us civilians.  WE have to make sure to protect freedom from  those within this country who would take it away... that means we have to stay engaged with public affairs, stay informed, let our elected officials know what we think, keep an eye out for attempts to take rights and freedoms away. And vote. And discuss issues ...like we have been doing here...though we also need to keep it civil, of course.

Most immediately, there are some things we can do, more directly reated to freeddm. Specifically: oppose the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003," also known as "Patriot Act II," that John Ashcroft wants to push through Congress.

More specifically and locally -- we need to get good citizenship education back in the schools. In many areas  it has been pushed out of the curriculum.  Do you old-timers remember civics class? "Problems of Democracy" or P.O.D. they called it at my old high school. Many high schools no longer teach this, or have reduced the course lengths and requirements. Jefferson felt the main purpose of public schools was to educate citizens so they could take part in the democratic process. Now this is being forgotten. This mundane and boring issue is critical to maintaining freedom over the long term.

My hope is the troops will come home soon. All of them.  What  they come back to is up to us.  Let's not let them down.
