Well, its here.

I never thought it would actually happen and then my dad told me this morning that the first American soldier has been killed in battle.

And I cry.

And what about the Iraqi soldier?

I don't cry for him because he knows not what he fights for. He's a casualty of situation and circumstance.

The American gave his life for the free world. Knowing, willingly, he said, not with empty words or speeches, he said with his actions, with his deeds, with his heart...

"If the fate of the free world depended on me, my lord, then  I would give my life for it"

One day the words of Martin Luther King jnr's ancient negro spiritual will ring in the streets of bagdad...'Free at last, Free at last, thank God almighty we're free at last'.

All my love
Danny

I too was sorry to hear of the Marine that got hit.  He did his job, served his county and paid the supreme price.

God willing the American casusalities will be low and friendly fire will be controlled and take no additional lives.

Pam, no it wasn't the same kind of bird.  The bird that went down up here was a black hawk.  The investigation is still underway and there is no determination as to cause that has been publicly released.  Many people have their theories, and the one that stands out most is that the 3 helicopters were flying low passes in radio silence and the loose snow that had recently fallen had kicked up a white out situation and the 3 bird went into the treeline and went down.  Rumour has it that they were off course and that's why it took so long to find the downed helicopter.  As soon as they determine the actual reason for the crash I'll post.  Clark was working that day Sad   Needless to say it hit everyone hard.

The men and women over their fighting have all my support and I wish them all home safely, and soon, and I wish the Iraqi people safety and freedom soon.

The helicopter that crashed was a CH-46E Sea Knight. It's the a very large Helo with two props.

Dannyboy....the above statement saddens me because most of the American and British soldiers are career soldiers not conscripts...if the american or british soldiers refused to fight they would probably spend time in military prison, however the Iraqi soldier I should think would be tortured and shot, he fights to save not only his own life but probably that of his families too....what saddens me is people like you, who forget that we are all at the end of the day human beings...except maybe saddam

First of all let there be no question to what side i support in this war.
Second Hope you forgive me if a use the wrong word here.

See some of you talk about the sadness of loosing a soldier in combat.Everybody know that this is a chanse everybody takes to join the army, and this is the backside of the medal to be a soldier.

As a parents everybody know what can happen and what the chanses are.

I think UN should get more time before starting the hell of war,and to know more what you are up against and what the chanses are.

think we all can agree that there is no winners in a war,no matter what, and this includes both sides.

As i see it this region is to unstabile as it is,and really does not think that this will help.

What frighten me most is 2 things here
1
This could be a start of a new "Vietnam" Hope you dont think that taking out Saddam would help. There are a lot like him in that region.Libya +++++.I know that my US friend is not that blueeyed that they think this will be a short time thing. This can very easy keep on for years.
2
This could very well spread to other regions, and in the end a global dissaster.

And who will win whit that?just asking

Hope you all forgive me but i just had to tell what i think about this

Your friend Svenn

dannyboy says of the Iraqi soldier "I don't cry for him because he knows not what he fights for.

I will cry for him.

He is a casualty of situation and circumstance. Situation and circumstances beyond his control. The average Iraqi soldier has no choice in his fate. He must do as he is told or he will probably have to watch is wife being raped and killed and his children murdered before he himself is slowly tortured to death.

The average Iraqi, civilian or soldier, is not our enemy. I will cry at their death.

The leadship of the country is the enemy and must be removed. For them I will not cry.

Perhaps the Iraqi soldier eats better. That’s true with the Koreans anyway. Still, that’s a hell of a price to pay and then be rewarded with a bullet.

I think you’re right Svenn, but I think the major fighting will be over fairly soon. I do think that we may be forgetting that fostering democracy there will more than tough. We keep forgetting that Saddam has kept down the crackpot religious types.

It is an unstable place and we may get stuck there. What a post! The British couldn’t stand it after just about ten years or so.

Peace, soon I hope

Call me dumb but I didn't know the US and Brittain conscripted...

OK Danny... you're dumb.

Hey Svenn, just one thin g I'm not 100% with you and that it that there are no winners in a war. I really believe that the Iraqi people will win this war. It also gives the US a big stick to sort out the Isreal/palestinian problem. Watch this space...

Two types of Iraqi soldiers Wes and BobG (bleetings sir how are ya?). If there is one Iraqi soldier in all of Bagdad that is fighting for Sadam out of patriotism and not fear then I was talking about him.

Good point anyhow.

Bring on the peace daddy

dannyboy
sorry I misunderstood your point about a patriotic soldier in Iraq ( if there really is one). The Republican National Army is said to be loyal to the madman but I have my doubts about that.
I think those soldiers just try a little harder to convince the madman they are loyal only to be better fed and have less fear about their families being murdered.
And, IF there really is a patriotic soldier in the RNA then he better watch is back........the others might kill him.
About the conscripts.......The USA does not conscript or draft it's troops. They are volunteers and all professionals.
And, if you think Iraq will win this war, think again. Or better yet, turn on the TV and look at who's going to win. The Iraquis are surrendering 8000 at a time.

Dannyboy
You are priceless, and I mean that in the worst way possible.

Reading your first post. If you boil down the meaningless claptrap words you borrowed from somewhere else/your Dad what you really wrote is:

Who gives a shit if an Iraqi dies?

Only sickos or thickos think like that. The war is here, but lets get it over with as quickly as possible with as few deaths of ANY nationality as possible so that not too many parents have to organise funerals and Iraq HAS a country left with some men in to rebuild when Saddam is gone.
