Bad Day

Yesterday started off normal.....then I got a phone call  from my wife....."I JUST GOT HIT".....an elderly man ran a stop sign and hit her in the driver side. She is bruised up but seems to be OK. I just bought this car 3 months ago..... it's totalled. At least he has good insurance!

Soon as I got the phone call I went to get in car # 2...an old wagon that only makes 1 or 2 trips a week..... after gathering my wits and my three year old daughter I load the car # 2 to go and hit the key....nothing....dead battery.

So I connect the battery charger for an hour and get the car started and head to the Hospital to see how she is. When I get there they (The Hospital) will not let me go back because I have Jessie with me, and she will not stay with a stranger..so Jessie and I take a seat and wait.....and wait...and wait...for 3 hours.

By now it's almost time for my 7 yr old to be home from school. I tell the nurse and she says I should have "plenty of time" to go and come back. 15 minutes after I leave the hospital releases her.....so she has to wait for me to return after getting my son.

I return home, my son comes home and we are getting ready to leave. I am outside and both kids come out behind me.....LOCKING THE DOOR with my keys in the house. (wife still waiting)

So I break in through a window and have my boy open the door...good..... then I cant find my keys....damn. 45 minutes later I found them...they had skid off the counter into the garbage can! (wife STILL waiting)

Back to the hopspital....pick up Momma and head to the pharmacy to get scripts filled. I go to back out of the parking space and the car (#2) dies....and will not start....dead battery again (alternator was bad). So I am stuck with an injured wife and 2 very tired and hungry kids and a car that won't run.......and my cell phone battery is almost dead too!

I call a buddy and after a short wait we all make it home....finally.

Whew......

Mark--Here is a thought. Yes it was a new car but thank God it was. Newer vehicles are much safer and since your wife was released, I'd say the car did its job. That is why you have insurance.
Glad your wife was released. Any injuries?
How are the kids?
Breathe deep and give your kids a kiss of the forehead, your wife a kisss on the cheak and thank God you are all together for the weekend.

Mark-
Yup, I think you're right....that's a baaad day!
Now, let's recap:
Car is totaled,
Driver has good coverage
Wife is okay
Window can be replaced
Alternators are cheap
Kids didn't starve(and you didn't kill them for locking the door)
Frustration level....oh, out of a perfect 10, probably an 11 1/2
You didn't say a thing about getting a hit
Summation? Total havoc at home, that will level out to inconvenience & hassles.....as well as residual pain for your wife while healing.....
BUT(you knew that was coming)...
everyone is alive, cars can be replaced and I'm really glad you got past the really rotten part. I will NEVER understand why everything happens at the same time!
Take the weekend off, Mark- enjoy your family- better days are on their way!!!
I hate it when nasty things happen to such nice people!!

Opus- Really? We just had some trouble with the Vette- Gil picked up an alternator (brand new....and hard to find for a 76)- it was a whopping $26-I was thrilled!
Around here, the story goes, when my husband turned 40(MLC), it was either a sports car or a girl on the side...I BEGGED him to get the girl.....I'm not stupid, it would have been much cheaper ???-no telling how many women he could've had with the $$ he's spent on the car!! Shocked Shocked
Alternators ARE cheap....now custom paint jobs......

The last new one I bought was $125. Was it the kind with the built in alternator? Another group is looking at them for $75. Maybe they could save money in portland?

I bet he gets more fun out of the car, and less headaches.

Geez Mark... that sucks big time! I'm glad your wife is going to be o.k. though.\

I think bad stuff like you described comes in cycles... it happens kind of like cluster headaches. Like... a few weeks ago, a water pipe to my dishwasher broke. My wife didn't know how to turn off the water to the house... so I came home to 200 gallons of water flooding the kitchen and family room. Swept it out using the garage broom. So then I went to the home fix-it store to buy plumbing stuff to fix that. When I went to the van, it had a dead battery. Called a friend to pick me up. Meanwhile... a Kip 8 hits me in the store parking lot... friend shows up and we jumpstart my van (during the Kip Cool. I drove home (during the Kip Cool parked it... ran into the house to grab the O2 mask... and didn't even tell my friend who followed me home thank you. The next morning I apologized and asked to borrow my friends truck so I could take my kids to school and then go to work. On the way home I bought a battery. Proceeded to drive home... but it was very windy (40-50 mph winds) and the latch on my van's back window had also broken during the same week... so the wind caught the window and damn near ripped it off of the van... the hinge is majorly fucked up now and the window wont stay closed except for the rope I tied to it to keep it closed. So I proceeded to replace the battery and cables (corroded from the battery leaking acid). Now my driveway is orange the battery acid and baking soda... and it won't wash off. A day or so after that happened, I found water all over the garage floor. It seems the hose to to the washing machine decided to spring a leak... rotted washer on the faucet connector. Replaced the washer and cleaned up the water. My kitchen and family room smelled like wet (probably rotten too) wood for over a week... not the first time the kitchen has flooded either. I swear, some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. Sad

That must be a day for the record books..  only thing to be thankful for is that you did not get hit with a K-10  Smiley

I hope that your wife is okay and that things will be easier from now on.

MarkC- excuse me while I interrupt this thread a moment.
I don't know how I managed to let this slip so long!
MARTIN!!!! I do not live in the Wild Wild West- nor, sir, do I live in the city....... Tongue
People do NOT strip cars out here and sell them for scrap!!! If ya wanna part, and it's still on one of the cars that graces someone's yard, it IS acceptable to wait till dark, and midnight requisition what you need, as long as it doesn't disturb the dogs! Sheesh, do I have to teach you manners, or WHAT? ???
In El Cajon, if the car dies on the street, and you want to go get help......by the time you return, the car is there- MINUS tires, seats, steering wheel, windows, engine, tranny... Shocked.....the frame is all that remains!!!!
No pickin' no scratchin', no moonshine guzzlin', jerkwater....and the ONLY Injuns, are dealers at the local casino..... Shocked Shocked Shocked
Okay, I'm better now.....resume Mark C's thread!
 Grin ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
