Hi I'm new and I've just joined. This seems like a really friendly place. I tried to get in the chat room. I did get in, but it doesn't all fit on my monitor, and I can't see how to resize the room. I can't see the place you type in, it wont fit on. Anyway, I send you warm hellos!

Hello Estelle, and welcome. Can you tell us something about yourself? Are you chronic or episodic? Have you been diagnosed yet, or have you not found the right neuro? Are you med free or not? Fill us in, Tracey

Well, it's a bit of a 'collection' really. Frequent + severe migraine with aura since age 10. Leading to "chronic daily headache syndrome" due to paracetamol (tylenol) overuse. Around 40 per week. And now this. Feels like a massive, sudden whack in my left temple. Crushing, searing pressure. That half of face burning, eye burning and streaming. And the weirdest thing - felt like my eye was being forcibly rotated inwards. Very painful and scarey - to say the least. I've been seeing a Neurologist for over a year now, trying to sort out the migraine and the chronic rebound headache. I'm back with him on 5 March - and will have to get some help with this new thing, which seems to be some kind of cluster headache. I know it all sounds like a hotchpotch, but I've been having a really REALLY bad time with all this. I'm NOT given to moaning and groaning, but this new thing feels like I'm having a stroke. I thought I was going to die.

Oh yes - you asked about meds. Propranolol 80mg per day - beta blockers - supposed to be prophylactic. Supposed to get me off the paracetamol. Zomig (Zolmatriptan) for when the flashing lights come. And stemetil (suppositories!) for migraine nausea. I haven't anything to help with this latest thing because I don't see the neuro until 5 March.

This thing only lasted maybe 5 minutes, and it was NOTHING like migraine. Nothing like any headache I've ever had.

I'd say take the 'Cluster Quiz' to the left. It sounds pretty short for a CH, but I'm no doc. PFDAN, grant

Well, I'm hoping it isn't, because I can see that this is a terrible thing. I'm not really here trying to self-diagnose, or get a diagnosis, because I'm seeing the neuro on 5 March. The nurse at work mentioned it, but really I'm here because if it is that I have had a cluster headache, I want to know if there's ways to cope, or even just a friendly place.

Hi Estelle. There is a chatroom for headache sufferers, regardless of headache type: http://www.headachesupportgroups.com/index.htm A gang of us clusterheads can often be found chatting there at 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm EST (USA). It sounds like you have a complicated headache history. Be sure to get a good neurologist to diagnose.

I was reluctant to take the quiz, because of my neuro appt soon. However, I took the quiz on this site. Then I took the 30 question quiz on the link. This site checked out as cluster. The 30 question quiz, the result came back as cluster.

If you really do have CH, I'm very sorry to hear that... this is brutal. But this website right here is one of the best resources for clusterheads. You will want to do alot of exploring on this site in preparation for you neuro appointment. Unfortunately some neuros don't know much about cluster headaches. The better educated you are, the more likely you will leave from your neuro appointment with an effective strategy to manage this disorder.

I think that's exactly why I'm here. He seems to be a decent sorta guy. For a start, he's really trying to get me off the paracetamol. And I KNOW how daft that sounds. They're just paracetamol right? But there's hundreds of thousands of people trapped in this rebound thing. I've tried to stop, but can't get past 10 days - the pain becomes FAR too bad. Anyway, if this thing is as bad as it was yesterday, and if it's going to happen again, (pray not), I'm going to want all the info I can get. For example, I HATE to think what would have happened if I'd been driving at the time my eye went crazy. I may not have had time to pull over. It was really so sudden. What I've noticed with my GP and the neuro, is that they seem to have ultimate faith in whatever meds they prescribe. If the meds don't work, it must be my fault, right? Listen, I'm sorry I've elbowed into the conversation a bit much for a new person. I hope I haven't seemed too 'loud'
