Need advice-not cluster related

I'm looking for someone who had/has a rotator cuff complete tear,  who declined the surgery.

Word of advice: Don't play with rabbits.  They cause you to fall down on your left side really hard, like a fallen tree, and tear the rotator cuff on the opposite arm.  Then you see a Dr., have an MRI, and get told that you have this complete tear that can only be fixed by surgery which hurts pretty bad, and takes a long time, with therapy, to heal.

I don't have time for this.  I don't want to miss another OUCH convention.  I don't want an operation.

I'm thinking of not having the surgery..........I need to talk to someone who has been through this.

And remember............Rabbits are dangerous to your health.

Hi Donna,
I had a complete tear and suffered for a long time with it. I tried thereapy first but of course nothing, lots of ibuprofen and finally gave in and had the surgery. I'm glad I did. I felt much better within a couple weeks but I did my own therapy at home with the rubber band excersises and eventually with time was back to normal. I would recommend doing it because I remember the constant pain with all the little every day chores. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Thanks people.

The doc says that if I wait 5 or 6 months, the muscle will shrink and he won't be able to stretch it back over the bone....so I don't dare wait too long if I do have it done.   The pressure makes one confused as to what to do.

jonny.........you're so bad.........I can't wait to meet you!

Donna,

My husband had a complete rotator cuff tear.  He did it playing football.  They didn't want to lose him for the season....so they just taped and strapped it.  He would rest it during the week, but they would shoot him up to play.  I don't imagine they would do that today, but back then they weren't as careful (i.e....worried about being sued).

It still bothers him, but usually only when he's sleeping.  Can't get comfortable in one position for too long, so it wakes him up about once an hour.  He's talked about getting it fixed, but, like you....he won't slow down long enough to do it.  He's still had to do a lot o fheavy weight lifting therapy for it, even without the surgery.....so, you are going to have to rehab it one way or the other.  But, I honestly think it would be faster with the surgery, because you will eventually have to do it....and, if you wait, it gets to be a real mess in there.

If you decide against surgery, just make sure you build a real good layer of muscle over that shoulder.

Tracey

Greg said to add in that if you don't get it fixed....it's is extremely painful when you play golf..... Embarassed

Tracey----------

Thanks for the advice......it makes sense and I need to hear real stores like yours.

I think I know what I need to do......just don't want to and was hoping someone would say "oh, don't worry.....it will eventually just heal up and be OK.

Sorry Donna,

Don't think anyone's gonna tell you its ok to leave it alone. I waited 7 months from the time I tore it and never felt like it was going to get better. I heard the surgery was painful but I only had to take painkillers for one day and that was it. Well worth getting the surgery, would have done it a whole lot sooner if I knew better.
Good luck to ya, oh by the way, I tore mine by play wrestling on my bed, and guess who fell off...... Roll Eyes

Donna,

I had a slight tear in my left rotator cuff a few years ago.  My ortho sports surgeon recommended rehab first. I spent 3 months in physical therapy working on it.  What a bitch! Mistress Melissa could moonlight as a domm at Helga's House of Pain!  But she had a healthy set of lungs!  Cheesy  But I digress......

I had a complete tear of my right rotator cuff last year.  The same ortho sports guy recommended surgery.  After the surgery, I had to see Mistress Melissa again.   ;D

Bottom line, I STILL have problems with my left shoulder.  But the right one, after surgery feels brand new!  My advice is... do what the doc says.... If it's a complete tear, get the surgery!  Rehabing the rotator cuff is a slow and lengthy process ( and painful if you see Mistress Melissa!)   ;D

Well, I am convinced.  Thanks to you all and the private PM's.

Slammy, you put it over the top.  Thanks.

I'll schedule it for the first part of April, (just after my season contract with the hospital runs out) and get to the convention too.
