Thought I was an Alchoholic

Just been diagnosed as a typical CH sufferer after 15 years of torture. Never saw a quack about the problem until 2 nights ago suffered 2 90 minute explosions in the same night. Never had it so bad. Always thought that I was suffering some form of Alcohol addiction - If I had a few drinks every night, I would be OK, if I didnt have a drink, after 2 days the torture would begin upon sleep. Then when I had a drink, I would get walloped again, but if I drank 3 quickly, all would be OK. Because of the relationship with alcohol, I had kept this problem to myself. Has anyone had similar experiences with CH and the booze?

both great diseases. one will kill ya. seperate them. CH was always a great excuse for me. Poor me...poor me...pour me another. The pain med bottles said "alchohol will intensify the effects"...oh goody...that means it makes em work faster and stronger...so i'd wash em down with a tumbler of vodka. I'm simply a drunk who also has CH. A program of 480 mg of Verapamil daily has virtually wiped out my CH. A program of not drinking one day at a time has saved my life. Neither disease causes or cures the other. Only one of them will insist you don't have it....an it ain't CH. Walk in the sunshine den

I'll drink to that one Den! Alcohol is one of most recognized triggers of CH attacks. That doesn't mean it causes CH but it trigger an individual headache while in an active bout. There, but for the grace of God ...........

Been down that road Den. If one drink helps, well shit 50 must be better! Lets throw some high octane narcotics into the mix and really get things hopping. Guess what? The most potent opiate going triggered my Ch.

God knows I like a couple of drinks every now and then. But when I'm going through my yearly bouts of CH, I try to cut the alcohol completely. One drink can can trigger a 10 for me. Definetely cut the alcohol!

Aussie, If you drink when out of cycle and do not suffer from aftereffects then it would be safe to say it is just simply that the alcohol is a trigger for you when in cycle. My advice as most others is to stay away from it till your sure the beast has crawled out of your brain. suzy

Thanks all for the good advise, been off the grog for 7 days and haven't had a wipeout. Had the usual 2 to 3 wakeups at night but measured low on the richter (kip) scale. I was hoping you were all wrong, but dammit your right. Cheers

Hi Aussie, Glad your starting to feel better. Did your Dr. order you any meds? If not, go to see a Neuro, there are things he can give you to help. First arm yourself and read all you can in here. Take care, suzy

Suzy, Doc gave me prescription for Prednisolone and Verapamil but haven't started popping as yet. Found this site to find out a little more about what these things actualy do. I don't have the greatest faith in the medical ( pharmaceutical ) industry so i'll read a little first. I've had CH's for over 15 years so I can wait a little longer to find a treatment that is not as harmful as the cause. Zaira, had one beer last night, to test this theory, within five minutes, the optomotrist, the dentist and lobotomist were all operating on the left side of my mellon at once. ALcohol, unfortunately, is now a confirmed no fly zone for me during the cycle. Will Keep in touch

Don, Thanks for the tip, how long have you been on the magic combo, has it prevented, cured or turned down the volume. Any side effects of note. Spent 14 years in the Aus Army, never scared of the lead pills, but these little white ones have me worried.

Reading this discussion has really got me thinking now, my first migraine was when i was around 19. When i say migraine it was exactly the same as my CH'S which began some years later, the running nostril the unbearable pain behind my left eye. At the time i used to smoke a bit of pot(shit it was the 70's after all) some idiot got hold of some lucerne and palmed it off as dope. Bigtime laugh, i smoked half a joint of that crap before i realized what it was...an hour later BOOM my first migraine/CH. As in my previous post "Gone for 6 Years...back !!! " i thought i had seen the arse end of my CH'S forever. I was at a party some 3 weeks back and was offered some hydro,i haven't had a joint since the 80's and this stuff isn't anything like the old weed let me tell ya.To cut a long story short i smoked a whole joint of this kickass stuff,a week later and BOOM CH'S back after a 6 year break. My point here, i'm wondering now whether the hydro i smoked that night actually could have triggered the return of my CH'S ??? This stuff took a week to get out of my system and really whacked my head around,i'm sorry i touched it now but oh the things we do at parties. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Take care all shipo

Don't know much about the hooch   and CH's Shipo, Had a few tokes in me early teens, joined the Army at 18 and had to leave it alone. Been a civi for the last couple of years, might give it a try purely for research. Maybe you should post a new subject on this topic, it might stir up the pot. How's the cyclone your way?

Hey aussie, So far 4 days of rain here in Brissie i just hope the farmers are copping some of this,i'd suggest if your going to research the hooch you try and find some of the old weed and not that hydro mate.I made an arse outa myself and didn't know whether i was arthur or friggin' martha   Might start a new topic like you say and see if anyone else has a dope/CH related experience. Have a sister in Perth, where abouts in WA are you mate? Take care shipo on Feb 5th, 2003, 5:00am, Aussie wrote:Don't know much about the hooch ;D and CH's Shipo, Had a few tokes in me early teens, joined the Army at 18 and had to leave it alone.
